Yall are idiots
I dont even like the album but it is objectively influential
Alright ill bite, hows it influential?
I dont think its a bad album btw just never seen any measurable influence
The only influence I could cite is probaly Syre and some of Jaden's earlier songs that are just loosies like Weekend In Atlantis.
I think it definitely did start a more introspective trend in rap, I'm not really sure how to articulate what I mean though.
I guess it just started a wave of younger rappers talking about more existential stuff and more vibey beats? It doesn't really make sense cuz Donald was grown asf in that era
Fantano hates Donald. You just wanted to make a joke but you’re not in tune to have done so
he doesn’t hate him. he liked awaken my love and has had positive things to say about particular songs of his
what nigga listened to sweatpants and said yeeeaaaaahhhh this what i’m basing my sound on
People weren’t really translating internet culture into the actual music and visuals yet. You’re taking this for granted if you believe it wasn’t new when BTI came out.
dropping a lot of visuals, dressing the same way for public appearances and performances, creating a narrative and story arc..
sounds a lot like after hours..
bino been playing with that formula years before abel

Wow incredible insight. No artist has ever done that before and Childish Gambino is definitely the originator of the character act. After Hours simply would not be possible with Bino's OK Computer level contributions!

You ever heard of David bowie
how many people come out and list BTI as their influence
how many people come out and list any influence at all
and on the rare occasion an artist does list influences do they cover every single influence or just whoever is relevant to the interview they're in?
point being, we can't actually judge influence accurately thru interviews, at least not with most artists. We're left to make judgements ourselves on how much x influenced y and etc.

I agree with everything you say here, and still think BTI influenced very little. Worst of all he just copied what Drake, Ye and Wayne did earlier that year.

i dont think he rlly copied drake ye or wayne very much at all tbh i mean lets get real were any of them making s*** like telegraph ave, flight of the navigator, the worst guys, shadows, etc.
that being said i agree bti wasn't that influential but thats not cus its not good its cus it's a kind of inaccessible style. u cant easily replicate unless ur already working w rlly high level production and engineering and all that
maybe a few releases but def not as widespread as he claims. and i like the album.
