No its not. Tech companies benefit from AI, in the short term they will hire more to account for their business changing. For example, Google is re-working their entire search mechanism to compete with Bings GPT integration
Its probably true that there will be less total programming jobs but these companies are going to be programming and profiting the tools which use LLMs, and they'll need people to work on them
That being said I hope all the big tech companies implode before they merge (which is going to happen if US government doesn't take steps)

I work in big tech and AI has little to nothing to do with the layoffs. Was mainly a result of the excess of hiring in pandemic time. Also had to do with reality setting in in regards to promises made by the big players over the last 10-15 years. Over promising and under delivering coming to light causing investors to dip.
