idk if its just a southern thing but there is definitely a strong belief in the black community that being light skinned makes you more accepted by mainstream white society, and in general is a desireable trait

if u were light skinned and not ugly people would always compare u to chris brown or drake or the weeknd. most of the popular black female artists are light skinned, beyonce, rihanna, this has changed a lot recently but i imagine theres still a bias for sure (im not a kid so i dont know about how kids these days see it)
