I actually don‘t agree with Twitters take on Ice Spice ONLY being succesful because she‘s lightskin tho
she’s not only successful bc of it, but her trajectory and it’s momentum
she worked hard and her + team capitalized off it
right place right time thing
Colorism is real but I feel like it’s being used by these women to tear down another woman. There are plenty of darks in women that rap and are succeeding, maybe they all aren’t “hot” like Ice Spice but they aren’t failing either.

Are they capitalizing off her complexion or just her s***appeal. If she was darker and still had the same exact body type and appeal and still made the same music would she or atleast her team still attempt to use that to her advantage?
gah damn why are people so dumb
people can’t comprehend colorism can play a factor but also be one of a multitude of reasons why an artist is successful
It has to be black and white one or the other
so aggravating please think

there’s been about like 3-4 dudes itt distilling all of popular woman artists’ success to their s***appeal
some of these niggas need to get banned man
thing is ice spice is literally aware of what she represents and who her music is for… she a natural at what she does and many people just fail to realize that’s why she a star

Idk about colorism but I know those running girls make unbearable theater kid rap music

there’s an exoticism factor to her, mainstream media lacks afro latina representation
right time and right place, i’m sure if it was the exact same but she was darker it would have the same peak, i just don’t know if she reaches that as quickly IMO

I just don't think it's a big part in wether an artist is successful or not... I could name so many darker skinned artists who are not hindered by their skin color and so many light skinned artists who don't benefit from their skin color
Ice Spice is only famous because of s***appeal. Nothing to do with how lighter her skin is

If that was the case then Rubi Rose would be a platinum selling rapper right now
