colorism exists and plays a part in everything

it just isn’t the end-all be all. i don’t wanna be that guy but there are several women rappers that are lightskin and are not only considered conventionally attractive, they’re treated as s***symbols. yet NO ONE listens to their music

the bottom line is people listen to music they like to hear. and women are the main audience for women rappers, not men.

ice spice makes catchy well constructed songs, and she has a great team around her. her producer is dj enuffs kid, im sure the game was passed down a long time ago.

Ok I guess ion see it but word

That’s ice spice whole thing tho

Why don't you see it? Her, Ice Spice, Sexyy Red all do the hyper sexual lyrics and present themselves in a sexual manner. But out of those three it seems like most are more attracted to Ice Spice because of her s***appeal while Glorilla and Sexyy Red don't have the s***appeal...why is that? They get called ghetto and ratchet despite doing the same thing Ice Spice does...that's not odd to you?

if you think she looks white that’s on you

I’m saying HER FACE and her ARMS !!! ignore her hair. If she had on a hat you wouldn’t know she was black.

Bringing awareness helps less privileged artists

Not really because the underprivileged artists only get brought up in relation to colorism and never in a legitimate fashion, which ends up hurting them.

People complain about Ice Spice ----> "Why don't yall listen to Flo Milli" ---> The people complaining don't listen to Flo Milli ---> Repeat

This s*** plays out on twitter endlessly

It could very well be self esteem problems but it’s prevalent all throughout the United States. No matter what state you in the light skin girls are sought after so it’s a deep rooted problem within society.

Also how do we know this for a fact and the statistics? I always hear this and kinda just go with it but I’m curious how people are so certain about it

  • Jun 29, 2023

Definetely helps but her music is catchy. Ironically those girls in that tweet rap like white girls (garbage)

  • Jun 29, 2023

    maybe she has actual talent

when it comes to what’s marketable, i do think colorism plays a bigger part for sure.

that plays into sexuality, desirability, skin tone, current beauty etc for sure.

but i must also say, with the brand deals, taylor swift feature, met gala opportunities, magazine covers etc, that only happens because the music is performing well and the a***ytics prove that it would be worthwhile for whoever’s on the other side of the table to take that risk

It definately does. Not to say Drake make terrible music or anything but it's very obvious at times when Drake is cosplaying a nigga with a rough past as opposed to how he actually grew up.

I mean he used to say nigga with a hard ER.

I don't think I ever heard Drake say he grew up rough. He does have mob boss raps tho but it's just music, not sure what that gotta do with his racial ambiguity
