Nigga blaming they pops for they themselves liking wet tight p**** and not wanna start a family
It ain’t directly their fault but my dad literally used to call me as a kid and ask if I was f***ing on something yet and pressing me to be getting hoes like he was lmao s*** kinda warps your perception of relationships with women

at least you realized your father isnt you and you are your own man before you turned 40

Definitely. I appreciate that it helped me curate my charm and obviously have a lot of good times with women but eventually I learned that type of life isn’t for me. Not trying to make excuses for Drake but like another user said it’s different for me being a regular dude versus being an A list celebrity with unlimited money and women I can see why that s*** would be hard to give up with those philosophies in mind
Idk why no one touches on the revealing line about him and his dad.. it’s the closest I’ve ever heard him come to acknowledging what everyone seems so desperate for him to acknowledge: that his lifestyle maaaay be empty. Or the issues he probably has when his dad’s been lacing him with that perspective on women for his entire life
this album was some of the more vulnerable we've seen drake in recent releases and no one really giving him credit for it from what i've seen
as somebody who just listened to this song for the first time this s*** fire
You haven’t heard the album yet?

made it to nokia and never went back to finish the album lol

It is vulnerable as hell. Those lines about his crazy 2024 were a lot more transparent than I thought he’d be about it. Unfortunately like with every Drake project it won’t be recognized for how good it is until 2-3 years

I’m genuinely confused when Drake fans talk about his writing like this. It has me questioning if yall actually listen to music other than Drake
I like Drake, I’m not trying to hate but he seriously conveys all this stuff y’all call “deep and vulnerable” in the most basic/surface level way possible

I’m a Kendrick fan too but I don’t always need a quintuple entendre to be like damn this is good writing or this touched me. Hearing any rapper much less Drake admit that the events of last year got to him is good to me. Idk too many rappers admitting that on a song after a beef of that level. People complain about his writing being surface level okay?
I don’t need Drake to personify an object to say this hurt me to be touched lol. You’re right it’s not that deep. That’s why I and other listeners f*** with it. There’s not too many ways to say hey that beef that the public said I got killed in bothered me

Drake does an incredible job of validating emotions imo. Most of the time he doesn't even come to a conclusion or advice on how to fix it. The energy he brings to the song is, "This situation sucks and this is how I feel about it."

someone being vulnerable doesnt have to be expressed in double or triple entendres all the time. marvins room is easily digestible as far as lyrics go but the vulnerability of that song is why people gravitated to it
welcome to the beauty of writing

I acknowledged die trying is proof godbody songwriter drake is still in there somewhere

Die Trying is the closest we’re gonna get to drake being like “yeah i’m putting up a front with this lifestyle I’m living”
cause I gotta be #thatguy this album in a way validates a lot of things ( not that verse) from #mtg mainly the 2nd verse
I really wanna know how he really feels about his pops. Might be the most hot and cold relationship I’ve seen in a minute. That 1st verse when you first listen is like “
whoa.”

Would be interesting to hear him make a honest song about his dad. That’s the type of honesty and vulnerability I’m talking about
All these other Drake fans replying to me saying “uh duh you don’t need quintuple entendres duh” like that’s even what I’m talking about
Drake be like “We was just together yesterday now you not texting back” and his fans like “Wow this is so deep and real and vulnerable” lmao

the relationship in itself is probably just very complicated because it is very complicated.
At the end of the day, it's his pops tho. He chose to let him in when honestly (from what we see of his pops, highkey comes off like a scumbag old loser) he had every right to be like "fuck that nigga" lol

There’s a lot to it
The criticism of him parading his dad around to show everyone he’s black or whatever definitely has something to do with their relationship
Nobody actually knows the real nature of the relationship but Drake making a song about bringing his dad into his life (even tho he’s a pos) to feel more of a connection with black culture would be more honest and vulnerable then anything he’s done in a decade
Not saying any of that is true but songs like that are what I’m talking about when I say this is deep and vulnerable
