People are just broke and outspoken. That’s all. If folks had good careers and made decent money everyone would be peachy.
S*** even if they had basic jobs and just stayed off social media and stopped comparing themselves to everyone else things would be peachy
Hate to break it to you but most “basic jobs” can’t even pay for sustenance and transportation with their wages, let alone housing, insurance, recreation, self-care, and whatever other grift American corporatism pushes on the ordinary worker
Hypernormalisation
Idk if it's becoming mainstream (personally I feel it's been that way for a minute), but Theo and Bernie having this conversation on a large platform feels pretty significant
Sidenote I can't believe Bernie is 82 going on 83 and is as sharp and energetic as he is in this interview. Biden could never.
I peeped this clip the other day
idk what the stage past disillusionment is, but i personally think we are there
maybe that is just the young me talking but, I think people have moved past being off put on the lack of a cohesive social society, and have shifted to making the most of the hellscape. yes they will work 40 hours a week, but they wont think too much about it, and use the other time enjoying things they can.

Staying off social media won’t make houses affordable
I haven’t seen anything about Theo Von in ages and then I see him dropping knowledge about the state of the world and the state of being.. in an interview with Bernie?!

Resistance ?
Disillusionment was literally Gen X's whole thing btw
In what sense
Because Gen X was the people who voted Reagan in their first elections
The last year or so, I’ve become disillusioned about popular culture and the Kendrick/drake beef cemented that for me. There’s just no real worth to most of this stuff we give so much attention to. I’ve been off social media for like a year now and my sister showed me a meme that’s trending and all I could say was what is even the point of this nonsense
No, not until nixon
Lost Generation from the 1920s
Lost Generation from the 1920s
Counterculture has always been a thing. The “lost generation” wasn’t a mass movement of disillusionment
Look i already know this sentiment is something the majority of us on this site know and feel being younger but I do sense a bit of “let’s actually talk about it” publicly from certain figures now. The media is having a tougher time promoting that american pride slop now in general without it looking out of place
idk it’s just an observation
incredible that Bernie's handlers refuse to allow him on any leftist podcast whatsoever but allowed this to promote Kamala lmao

Not the literary term. The era of people worldwide losing faith in a world they thought was comfortable after the never-before-seen horrors of WWI. The flu. The birth of popular culture as a concept (and thus consumerism) forcing people to move from self-sustaining communities into larger urban areas to survive. The Great Depression occuring shortly after.
A 15-20 year period of back to back societal tragedies that left people in existential crisis without hope.

This is true the only thing we need to do is fix wealth inequality
After that everything opens up

IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN HIM
B****ing and moaning without channeling it into anything productive gets us the current political landscape. I think Theo is funny, but he also thinks Trump and Bernie should have been on the same ticket, just because they fit his definition of anti establishment. Basing your politics on nothing but outrage and rebellion is ultimately baseless
Fair enough honestly, title could've been paired w/ a better speaker
