    He has no deal.
Every release he licenses his project to universal for distribution. He can choose to pick another label or just distribute it himself
Drake has no contract with any label

Lol this is extremely false. He has a new deal with Universal and Universal only... through the OVO imprint. Not CM. It’s not project to project. HDD confirmed a while back that Lucian gave him whatever he asked for to re-up. Drake got very favorable terms, and it’s a very safe assumption that the new deal included him getting his masters back 100%.

    owning masters >

  • Sep 6, 2021

It's crazy this album gonna probably be more lucrative to him even if it sells half of his most sucessful project.

Calling him independent is a stretch. You know universal or republic has relationships with Spotify and we know who pays for the videos and billboards.

What’s impressive is owning his masters, his freedom to drop when and what he wants, and what he pulls in on tours, brand deals, other ventures.

I think he has the power to drop independantly now too. Scary Hours 2 didn't list any UMG involvement but seems his deal involve his studio albums having that partnership + distribution with UMG.

I'm not an expect on the business side but that's how it seems

Yeah he has a licensing deal. I wonder what the spirit is I guess he retain a 100% ownership and revenue is split 90% to him and 10% to universal for marketing

Yeah cause its 100% Kanye would've bought them by now out of spite. Smart move by him to get ahead

Drake handing out preventative Ls to konway.

I mean 21 savage has a 70 to 30 split master p had a 80 to 20 split too so it's no promblem for drake to have a 90 to 10 split.universal would gladly take that L cause
    1. Drake 10% is higher than most artists 70%
2.so they can attract new artist to their label kinda like how Nike used LeBron, drake and Serena Williams to get the Liverpool deal while offering the same amount of moneyas Adidas. cause they have more popular endorsers attracting more customers so it's good look for universal to have drake under their roster even if they don't make that mush form him

Kanye cant even buy his own masters lmao

cause they're too valuable. he has enough money to buy it at the price its evaluated at now, UMG and Sony just realize the potential prospective profit and won't sell them

Maybe. But I don’t like applying the word “independent” in this way, it’s a reach, owning masters don’t mean independent. I know he has a great deal and a ton of freedom but it’s still a major deal and calling him independent is disrespect to the true independents imo

    This.

    He’s not independent.

    False
    Go check Scary Hours two
    It just says OVO 2021
Drake only approaches universal for licensing for his full length projects

very ironic how things turned out for certain artists considering false narratives they'd spread for years and now they're literally f***ed in terrible contracts they'll probably never get out of
