Being a rap superstar and going ghost will always benefit your next album release cycle. Kendrick Lamar is a great example and I can’t even begin to imagine what his first week numbers will look like.

There is plenty examples of this not being true lmao.
Drake and Wayne both did a million first week with high outputs before the albums dropped

Do you think Views would have sold more if WATTBA didn’t come out 6 months prior?

I remember people saying Drake was oversaturating the game at that point but I’m not a numbers guy so I wanna know what yall think.

Nah because wattba helped contribute to views hype imo.
Drakes crazy 2015 run is what made views hype insane.
Oversaturating the market only works if you drop consistent heat though. The same way going on a long hiatus only works if you come back with some heat.

This is why somebody like chance the rapper has to deliver on his next project or else hes done out here

  • May 12, 2022

Lowkey sucks being a Kendrick fan quiet for years then randomly announces a project that don’t even got a tracklist yet

Exactly and there is plenty of artist who go on long hiatus and come back and underperform numbers wise.
I don’t think kendrick will be one of those though. Think he’ll do big numbers

Yeah, Kendrick and Drake would never do poor numbers. As someone said, they’re superstars and arguing otherwise is ridiculous imo.

Drakes been in the game over 10 years now and he’s always kept us fed in some way or other and breaking records in the process.

It’s impossible to predict Kendrick’s first week numbers with the given information that we currently have. That’s why those projections for Kendrick’s first week numbers are laughable.

    It really depends tbh.

If a rapper has already established themselves in the game and gave people at least 1 classic then going ghost will help build up hype for their next release. C5, 4:44, and Nasir(mid but had a lot of hype) prove that.

But, if a rapper essentially blew up from a few hot songs, and the songs take on a life of their own, then going ghost will hurt them because the people were more invested in the said songs than the rapper him/herself.

  • May 12, 2022

a lot of y'all goofy ass niggas really would LOVE drake to not release music for some ridiculous ass reason and it makes me cringe SUPER hard EVERY TIME

  • May 13, 2022

Drake is a rockstar! He’s actually living the lifestyle of an artist! He needs to be outside! Dot is an introvert that makes commentary on his life and it parallels to black culture/experience

No. Also the “hype” artists garner when they release music sparingly dies down very quickly once albums are released. If people don’t connect with the album after hearing it, no amount of “hype” will get them to go back to it. We’ve seen this happen far too often with these types of artists, you can only rely on it temporarily.

i think the visibility and consistent output affects his critical acclaim in a negative way

i think the visibility and consistent output affects his critical acclaim in a negative way

but it keeps him buzzing as this omnipresent force in hip hop

  • May 13, 2022

fam he is a human not a commodity

those predictions seem to be accurate

    Hindsight is 20/20 op

Drake’s life is authentically his own

Can’t get picky with the details, they don’t matter anyway

“ Houses paid off, label paid off
My soul for the money wasn't the trade-off
Unlike most of you boys that fade off
I feel guilty taking some days off “

  • No, because he's not gonna be the old head that looked down on the new generations for having different talents.

However he ain't near as generous enough with the new top ranked spitters that openly show love recently..

A rapsody and Drake track produced by 9th Wonder should already exist by now, in my fan control freak opinion.

  • May 20, 2022

Damn it actually didn't even turn out to be that big of a boost for Kendrick.
