I see where op is coming from. I think the problem is that critics and gamers peg these games as genre defining masterpieces, when they are just popular products. I’ll give an example that I’m sure people will hate.

The uncharted series is like the transformers movies, very easily digestible action thriller product that any person can easily understand and enjoy. The difference is uncharted gets 9s and 10s and tranformers gets 3s and 4s. Games just haven’t caught up as a higher art form to the general public yet.

Crash and MGS are two completely different types of games than one another.

Red dead 2 .. dated af gameplay, amazing great beautiful story characters and dialogue but s*** "game" with top graphics

Uncharted 4 - great game but SEQUEL number FOUR?? getting repetitive

God Of War - again.. copy and paste clone of the same AAA formula. but great writing, etc

Horizon - great world and IP.. hopeful for sequel. again fell to same open world barren empty feel and boring gameplay

we got a S*** metal gear by series standards. barely even a cohesive story.

RATCHET and CLANK got PG-fied to tie in with the movie...

SPIDERMAN is cool... swinging in the city and buildings loading quickly and smooth.. gotta give props to that.

Bloodborne? Cool i respect if u like that game but lets be honest it looks like a ps3 game.
Persona 5? Cool i respect if u like that game but lets be honest it looks like/IT IS a ps3 game.
