i fw some of the hyperpop s*** but dudes like Sicko Mobb were basically making this s*** 7 years ago and i dont see people ever point out the the sonic similarities. Keef dabbled in this a bit too. Fast paced, focus on auto-tune and high pitched synths.

Its a shame the bop scene didn't last longer I really thought it was the next big sound and was gonna stay around for a while. Not saying theyre exactly the same and maybe this thread title is a bit hyperbolic but I just want us all to appreciate all the really innovative things the Chicago bop scene was doing back in the day cuz I dont see it talked about much. Crazy how fresh a lot of that stuff still sounds

this s*** here was so lit lol these vids were in constant rotation for me at parties in college

Again I think a lot of it is cool but Chicago needs its flowers for doing very similar s*** way in advance

Shame Chicago scenes always get taken and ran with by completely disparate groups of people and Chicago never gets its credit

UK did it with the juke/footwork scene, house music, and Drill to some extent (i get UK and Chicago drill way different but you know what I mean)

Thats interesting. I was wondering if we had any documented instances of hyperpop kids growing up on bop music.

Thats cool tho, I respect it. Dylan seems like a smart and talented dude with good taste

its gentrified 08-10 Futuristic ATL era too, even though that went super mainstream with Future in the early 10s

not sure I'm too familiar with what youre referring to as Futuristic ATL (i've never heard that term before). Would that include stuff like Rich Kidz? Can you post some examples?

But regardless yes I absolutely think theres a through line between like snap music > ringtone era > Rich Kidz type stuff > bop music > hyperpop. Was just talking about this with a friend the other day and he noticed the same thing

Yeah Dylan lived in Chicago I think and (at least visited Laura there) and is a huge bop and nightcore fan. So I mean he’s paying tribute and vocal about it but yeah you could make a case it’s gentrified bop music.

S***, nightcore is a gentrified version of what Florida has been doing to rap tracks since forever.

yeah like I said I may be being a bit hyperbolic and unfair with the title but its just an interesting sonic connection I've noticed that doesn't get talked about much

Rich Kidz is exactly it, Futuristic ATL was 2008-2010 in ATL where dudes like J Money, Yung LA, Future started saying they were on the futuristic wave, adopted a sing-song flow & the production was KE On The Track, Nard & B, it was heavily inspired by the times i.e. T-Pain, Wayne, 808s, autotune, futuristic synths & tinny bass

it went hand in hand with late 00s Gucci & OJ who were doing the "super fruity crazy swag" style, which just meant they were having fun with their flow & content just like Futuristic ATL, and ever so slightly older era rappers like Gorilla Zoe were adapting their sound to Futuristic ATL
