It's cringe to pretend to like more than one genre just to impress forum nerds on how diverse ur taste is

I don’t think listening to single genre is necessarily bad or anything. I think if you do predominantly listen to a single genre, it’s weird if you don’t have a diverse taste within it. Like all the same sub-genre or your top 25 albums are from like 7 total artists. If you’re gonna stick to a single genre, at least appreciate the whole spectrum

I respect a purist more than a dabbler

    Cringe? No
It does say a little about you as a music listener though

  • Nov 6, 2021

Put it this way, Ill really value your opinion on stuff in that genre but stuff outside of it not really. Which is okay, people like what they like

  • Nov 6, 2021

    No

People would only even say its cringe if it was all rap, which is dumb as f***

I see people post all rock top 10 albums a lot and nobody ever s***s on them

  • Nov 6, 2021

its fine, but whats not fine is being annoying about other ppls list who dont include that genre

    I have a top 100 albums

almost 2/3 is hip hop, but the top 10 is like 80-90% hip hop depending on my mood

The Downward Spiral the only non hip hop album with a firm place in my top 10 tbh

    Based

  • Nov 6, 2021

I think many rap fans are justly disgusted by how racist and ageist criticisms of hip hop have been, so some overcompensate by throwing other genres under the bus

Don't be mad at the genres, be mad at the cornball journalists making nonexistent hierarchies

  • Nov 6, 2021

eh if you grew up on something it's gunna hold a special place to you. at the end of the day it doesn't matter what your taste is. probably 7 or 8/10 of my favorites are rap

    I agree completely

I get shamed for having a predominately hip hop oriented top 10.

Would the same people shame you if your top 10 was all rock 🤨

    Probably not

Nine Inch Nails hard as f*** and I genuinely love The Downward Spiral but outside of that I'm not putting any rock in my top 10

one of the weirdest things ever is hip hop only ppl loving The Downward Spiral. Like its often the one "rock" (its industrial metal but for this convo lets just say rock") album hip hop only ppl like. Amazing album, but legit has nothing in common with hip hop

  • Nov 6, 2021

Nine Inch Nails and Burial the only non hip hop artists in my top 10

  • it’s cringe if you think it’s cringe

Demon Dayz and Hybrid Theory are still the most loved rock albums in hip hop tbh

I love rock, but a lot of it grew off me. Nine Inch Nails, Pink Floyd, and David Bowie genuinely are three of my favorite artists of all time though, like it's not one of those things where you force yourself to like it because you think it makes your taste "diverse"
