Imma try to keep OP short, I believe Westside Gunn Brought this up before but if we really supported these artist we would cop the album first week .

We complain that our favorite artist don't be popping, but we don't want to support unless it's a cool shirt or something else.

Look at Nicki Stans or even Taylor Stans, regardless of the quality of the project they will buy the project or even song to boost their artist sales.

Im not saying I want us to game the system or care about the charts. But to at least show a bit of love the same way pop fans or etc show to their artist (how have tremulously quality issues compared to the artist we like). Especially those who like music as much as us.

Motherf**ker, if you did, then Killer Mike be platinum" Kendrick Lamar.

    No it isn't.

Then they need to start bundling whippet crackers like Gunna and maybe I’ll start throwing some more money around

  • Oct 15, 2020

Yes. That's why I hate when they keep complaining.

Tbh, the sales don't even have to be high. But they aren't even consistent at whatever "lower" numbers they're at.

  • you better believe i'm supporting nicki over westside gunn

Kinda sorta, but in the case of WSG, that nigga be making his merch and vinyls cost like 80-100 bucks so it's kinda f*** that nigga. But I do understand that supporting the artist(s) that you listen to is important and does help them grow more.

you don't think he does it to gain money he wouldn't be selling in music. I think someone said only one of his albums hit the billboard 200

"quality" music was never at the "top"

And even now a lot of "top" artists are amazing.

Is Kendrick not considered the best rapper of the 2010s? While also being one of the top sellers?

    “Real”/quality/good

its not more that he was right but every generation will have there style of music 80s was rock 90s was rnb real hip hop pop music etc

now its d*** rapping with showing off cars jewelry women cash etc not saying that was not in the 90s style to but now its over more of an up beat production

    nope

    industry

    labels

    technology at large

  • so many different implications in OP. me personally, i have my fave artists that i still cop their stuff on itunes the night it drops. for example partypack drops tonight, and i'm purchasing 3+ year old songs cause i feel like i should.

and i'm sure that's how nicki's and taylor's fans feel. these artists are doing us a service and fans that feel inclined are gonna show them that love right back. maybe westside's fans don't feel that way.

also that's such a drastic comparison it's kinda silly. i know you're not being that specific but since you named them, taylor and nicki are pop stars both over a decade deep, on majors, have "the machine" behind them, all types of s*** that contributes to their success. it's not as simple as, "hey if you're a westside fan cop my s*** the week it drops and i'll blow up"

i'm on 3 vpn's trying to get YG to realize he has multiple countries listening to stay dangerous still

  • Oct 15, 2020

I think we are in a pretty good age for artists since they can get a lot of love from the internet without the need of being huge unlike a few years back when radio stations were the biggest outlets and they could push whatever the labels paid the most for. There really isn't a big need to be a huge artist unless that's what they desire.

  • Oct 15, 2020

Yes let's put the blame on the fans

Honestly yeah, now the rap is "trendy" among cacs and teenagers who don't genuinely care about the genre; this is why Tik Tok s*** gets popular. I don't care call me a boomer for this take, but you know it's the truth.

Most of the stuff on the charts doesn't last because it's disposable music only for the moment. This is why I'll play a record like Summertime '06 5 years later vs. some Ca$h Out s*** that hasn't aged well.

The most played artist of the year is weeknd with one of his most if not his most experimental albums to date

Tylers igor won a grammy last yr

Experimental or “quality” music can be popular it’s just that a lot of these “real rappers” s*** is boring and they hv no idea how to make basic song structure
