Honestly yeah, now the rap is "trendy" among cacs and teenagers who don't genuinely care about the genre; this is why Tik Tok s*** gets popular. I don't care call me a boomer for this take, but you know it's the truth.

Most of the stuff on the charts doesn't last because it's disposable music only for the moment. This is why I'll play a record like Summertime '06 5 years later vs. some Ca$h Out s*** that hasn't aged well.

hey no need to diss ca$h out

People gotta get over this idea that popular = bad. The stuff that is popular is popular because more people like it.

the death of small radio stations contributed to the cotton candy era we’ve been in since clinton stepped down

  • Oct 15, 2020

    @sab agree?

  • Oct 15, 2020

Look man, labels and industry people push what will be accessible because accessible = money

A lot of what us music nerds considering “groundbreaking” is not the most accessible so it doesn’t have that type of reach

And we get mad as fans because we think “well it’s groundbreaking or artful so it deserves that mainstream recognition” but mainstream recognition was and is never about that

period. i really don't like the implications behind "real" and "quality" lol it always turns so pretentious.

  • Oct 15, 2020

The problem is that Westside Gunn is your benchmark for quality music

  • Oct 15, 2020

Its radios fault, kanye the prophet called it in his 2016 stream of consciousness

  • Oct 15, 2020

So darlin darlin tweeeerk.... on meeee

  • Oct 15, 2020

This argument has been around for decades and its not the fans fault for s***

the simple fact is if you put on Westside Gunn at a party or a wedding, that s*** is getting booed tf outta there

Music pops based on how many scenarios it can be played in.

  • Oct 15, 2020

Unless you have a female (or gay) fanbase you won't get that type of die hard support . Straights could never.

  • Oct 15, 2020

No lol I would say most people only listen to what they listen to as a result of it being made more known due to labels and the powers that be, most ppl not finna go out the way to find quality “real” music when they can just listen to a new playlist on Spotify for ex

Depends on if you believe a vast majority of the population are morons

People eat up the cookie cutter bullshit TV that the basic cable channels funnel out..and it's not different with music

Why would your fans want to buy a shirt before they buy your music though

Because you can stream music now and that gives fans the power to enjoy a product without actually having to own it

On one hand I feel you. But on the other... music and TV are forms of entertainment. So is it bad to be entertained by the "cookie cutter bullshit" stuff.

I do think people can be dismissive and disrespectful towards music that isn't "cookie cutter bullshit" to use your phrase. People should be able to recognize and appreciate quality even if they don't personally like it. But that goes both ways. "Real" music fans should recognize that there's talent and quality even within the lighter stuff.
