all these dudes lucky the weeknd doesn’t get in his rnb bag
MDM still better than all their latest projects
sza
thot music
Yeah I agree. She’s never been straight R&B. She’s always been a melting pot of different influences. Indie, Rock, Pop, Hip-Hop, Neo-Soul etc.
That’s why I’ve always fancied her as an artist. She’s got underrated versatility.
Tbh you can compare her to Badu in that regard
didnt know he dropped a P2 level project
Well I mean P2 is wildly overrated and I'll still never understand what people see in it but go off.
He better than PND, Bryson Tiller, and them DVSN dudes.
He 100% has the vocal talent to outdo all of those artists, but he has yet to release an album (or maybe even a track ) that’s as good as anything on PND 1 or Gallant’s Ology
restraining SZA to r&b just don’t sit right with me when a lot of her music explores so many genres outside r&b lol
if you break it down most of ctrl and good day is influenced by indie rock more than r&b
nothing wrong with the r&b label but she been way bigger than that
I legit never thought about any indie rock influences on CTRL. Which tracks did you have in mind cause all I can think of rn is Supermodel
better than jacquees thats for sure
jacq got a better voice imo but brent makes better music

there’s something about her voice and storytelling that reminds me a lot more of alanis morissette than lauryn hill.
it’s ultra confessional, and has a tinge of self pity a border lining bitterness that makes her a bit more grungey than her peers.
drew barrymore is a straight up dream pop classics, with its swirly chorus-drenched guitar strums
garden is damn near a postal service tracks goddamn those arpeggios do something to me
i can go on and on. by no means is SZA shying away from R&B. but it’s merely a fraction of the influences she’s interacting with and performing so f***ing beautifully all over that record. her earlier records too but Ctrl is pop perfection imo.
she really is so far beyond any of her peers in the music industry it’s insane. only ppl that come to mind are solange and twigs, but SZA is carving her own lane that speaks to youth like no other artist (except frank ocean maybe)
