Nas has 1 classic
Hov has 6 classics
DONDA coming soon
DONDA coming soon
yeah nas is top 5 or top 10 at least
does that make any good album he makes a classic tho? some people do do that, like if Bob Dylan makes a good album, rock critics will call it a classic because it's a good Bob Dylan album, but if it was a good album by a new artist they wouldn't...
but i don't think Life is Good will go down the same way Illmatic or even the Lost Tapes will.
Im not saying that or I’d be saying god son is a classic and I don’t think it is, that’s just a good ass album

so what makes Life is Good a classic? i do love that album, but for me a classic goes beyond my personal taste

I didn’t start this thread saying it was, tbh I just thought it was a Personal classic. Although the source named it album of the year over GKMC. It was one of the seminal “grown man rap albums” along with commons dreamer believer, top notch production, awesome lyricism. The way I see it it has two things holding it back. Summer on smash and the sequencing could’ve been a hell of a lot better

oh were you only saying Hov first?
That's interesting i never knew that. i definitely respect them for doing that, we gotta show love to the legends doing top tier stuff.
sometimes tho my 'aoty' is not a classic, i'm sure whoever made that decision in retrospect knows that when it comes to classics, GKMC is a textbook example of one.

Yeah I made the thread originally with just jay.
Tbh I’m not the biggest fan of GKMC, I’d listen to LIG over it any day in 2020, although I’m aware the consensus is that it’s considered much more of a classic than LIG.
First time listening to LIG in a while. There’s not a bad song on this outside of Summer On Smash.
Calling it a classic though?

that comes down to personal taste tho. for me that's Em. I don't wanna hear Em, but MMLP and SSLP are clearly on that al time status
i guess for any classic there'll always be people who can find a reason against it. even illmatic
Common
TD/TB is a personal classic, Black America Again and Let Love are really great albums

Yeah there are plenty of albums I’d agree are classics that I personally don’t really listen to or consider that good, MBDTF and GKMC are probably the biggest examples, but yeah Eminem albums as well. They’ve aged like milk, but no way MMLP isn’t a classic however much I can’t listen to that s***

I love MBDTF but it's nowhere near my most played Ye album. i get it's impressive and pulled off pretty perfectly, but i think the actual ideas were better on his first album. ik the performance, scale and presentation on MBDTF is important to a lot of people tho.
still an amazing album to me and a classic. POWER is one of his best songs too imo. gorgeous is an amazing kanye verse as well. and rick ross and nicki have some of their career's peaks with their features.

MBDTF isn't even in my Top 3 Ye albums
MBDTF isn't even in my Top 3 Ye albums
this really says more about ye's talent level and discography quality than anything. 2000-2016 is an insane run

It absolutely does.
1. College Dropout
2. Yeezus
3. Graduation
Lil Wayne?
At a (massive) push maybe 2 (gorilla warfare and either C2 or 3) but what classic has Wayne had since 2010???
i like LIG fine but i dont consider it a classic so HOV wins as always
dont even get me started on nasir
