Question in the title. By "Kanye's style of working" I mean working with a lot of people, many projects at the same time, announcing more stuff than is ultimately delivered, never meeting deadlines etc

    PROS

    • intense, chaotic rollouts
    • occasional drama
    • much input from different people make final product more ecclectic
    • we get excited about stuff from time to time

    CONS

    • Ls wrapped in Ls
    • s***load of leaks
    • frustration
    • potentially lack of willing to live

Idk man. He’s mad some pretty wild choices. Like putting the 45 second snippet of Jesus is Lord on the album when there’s a finished

Killing. He has great ideas that can be turned into amazing songs but he doesn’t work on them long enough and rushes release dates cause of his episodes.

If he had the same work ethic Ye pre TLOP had , a lot of these songs would be classics tbh

  • Aug 21, 2020

Killing, remember the last time when you expected a long well developed project from Kanye.
Ye was short and all over the place, JIK is just underwhemlingly short compared to real Sunday Services, strange that he didn't want to recreate it on the album.
Donda - I expect it to be short and rushed as you can make something for 3 years and it still will be rusher.

Killing. Yea its kinda exciting sometimes but its more painful than anything and then the work hasn't even made up for it other than KSG (which wasn't a messy rollout). Rn ill be happy if these songs on Donda come out finished and that's a very low expectation for a dude who used to put "5000 man hours" into just 1 song.

i think his recording process is a lot different from the traditional artist. His rollouts have always been chaotic which is the method to the magic in my opinion. The only bad part is when he claims an album is releasing then it never comes out. yandhi for example...

this might be due to his creative process and constantly wanting to change things sound and songstructure wise. I just want him to take his time and surround himself with as many creative people as possible.

and even with KSG, that s*** was made in 2017. There was time put into that and you can tell!

you can try use this argument on anything other than JIK. and id probably understand (wolves tlop verse) JIK is him literally trying to shove Jesus in people's faces... you cant expect a lyrically acclaimed album from that

Saw it more so as a way to devote himself to Christianity, it was an important album that he kinda had to put out. More so why this next one will be much better as he can branch out to other topics.

Kanye is a victim of the streaming era and lack of need to turn in physical albums. But either way I don't really care.

kanye aint a victim of anything He's a victim of being himself in an era where a perfected image of your self will sell. speaking out too much your going to get heavy backlash...

    dont make baseless claims

Even the Donda song seems like a step in the right direction, guess we'll have to see.

nah, I can't excuse it. it's a stretch to even say he's in verse. it literally sounds like he's just talking monotonously into an iPhone mic, laid it over the production, and called it a day. i'd even argue that the song would be better if he wasn't on it.

especially when JIK actually has flashes of some genuinely powerful lyrics here and there, technicality goes out the window.

There's an obvious correlation between a decline in the quality of his music (at least according to those who think it has declined) and lack of pressure from outside sources like labels needing to make physical copies, etc. The streaming era has given artists more freedom than ever before, Taylor's label didn't even know she was dropping her most recent album until the day she announced it.

There's no deadline for Kanye other than the release dates that he sets which mean pretty much nothing. A lack of a deadline means a lack of pressure, a lack of pressure means he's free to work as he wants.

I like that its only a couple songs, adds some variety to his albums like TLOP which I feel is perfect in terms of blending all his styles prior.

Taylors last 2 albums are on her own label
