A big part of this is def weird moderation decisions as well as many power users being banned over time since 2019. Plus gimmick accounts are basically gone vs on KTT1 where they were a big thing. Basically it’s over

I miss both PRAIA and gare yos I know PRAIA got banned but I ain't seen that boy gare in months and it feels like he distanced hisself from me even after we got along well

If you dont have a regular section or two that youre known to be apart (like mine are (viedeogame sxn, life and music) of that is like "homebase" and/or dont have at least a few users youre cool with that you interact with then idk how you survive or enjoy this site in the 2020s just browsing and randomly getting into ish

That era is mostly dead so if you dont have a clique/acquaintances or havent "made a name" for yourself then you just kinda floating and posting into the ether

I’ve been a prominent member of the site for over a decade now, very active in sports/music/L&A/game/film sections. It comes down to a few things.

One big reason is as you said. Once you say something questionable or against the grain you get people calling for bans or some type of punishment or acting like you shouldn’t speak on certain topics because of this or that. Sensitivity is at an all time high and everyone is itching to feel persecuted and to call out people for bad behavior.

People take things to heart on here way more than they should. I’ve never in my life blocked or muted a poster or said anyone should be PERMANENTLY banned. I don’t understand the mindset of people who do these things. We have folks who are against jails but in favor of permanent bans. As if people can’t change and learn from their mistakes all of a sudden.

And to add to that, certain posters keep a Rolodex of all of your “offenses” so that in the future they can try use it as some sort of “gotcha!” whenever they please for easy likes and reactions. So you could somehow get banned for some s*** you said months or years ago that wasn’t a problem back then but now it is.

And then there’s the issue of the bans themselves and how moderation is handled on this site. Too many good posters get banned for trivial things and most of the mods power trip with nothing to check and balance their actions. Too many of these mods aren’t tapped in enough to know how certain posters move, they don’t look into context, there’s no chance to defend yourself. You just get banned.

Quality of trolls has also declined but that could be attributed to the good ones being banned. A forum can’t thrive without good trolls. They generate content and nobody is on forums to be serious all the time.

Mods hated seeing Tobacky thrive with his threads

Nothing was the same after he kicked me out of that one misc chat thread of his sadly I think I just wasnt liked there

Were they personas though? Gare was just a funny ass dude and PRAIA was a cool and very creative thread maker. They were very frequent new age posters that were just being themselves, I think
