@op to answer you question, it’s far from a weak discography based off Jackson 5 through his 80s solo career. He could have started yodeling in ‘93 and he’d still be king of pop.

but yes most people ignore a considerable chunk of his discography when they rank him, and I think one day it may be what makes him surpassable. If an artist has say 7 albums w 1 front to back undeniable classic and no major misses, I think they could reach the mj discussion.

mj also gets some bonus points because he hit that 80’s peak before the internet era. The internet made fanbases smaller and more spread out, if MJ’s run was right now he’d have a hive at best.
