The bourgeoisie, wherever it has got the upper hand, has put an end to all feudal, patriarchal, idyllic relations. It has pitilessly torn asunder the motley feudal ties that bound man to his “natural superiors”, and has left remaining no other nexus between man and man than naked self-interest, than callous “cash payment”. It has drowned the most heavenly ecstasies of religious fervour, of chivalrous enthusiasm, of philistine sentimentalism, in the icy water of egotistical calculation. It has resolved personal worth into exchange value, and in place of the numberless indefeasible chartered freedoms, has set up that single, unconscionable freedom — Free Trade. In one word, for exploitation, veiled by religious and political illusions, it has substituted naked, shameless, direct, brutal exploitation.

If anyone's wondering this is a quote from Karl Marx

I'd it's more the idea of "the Market" or "the Economy," both are these abstract ideas that we are expected to appease even to our own harm. Despite growing economic inequalty and our own worsening material conditions, we're constantly told about how great the economy/market is doing

More and more kids these days would rather have a job with a purpose than one that makes more money and "evil" corporations have never had a harder time hiring new talents

They still manage to hire people but there is a noticeable trend here and they’re scared

Money is as old as god

not really, humans developed aspects of spiritual consciousness and 'god' long before the need for a medium to indirectly exchange wealth (i.e. barter was the means of exchange in this period)

perhaps wealth would be a better substitute for money, but even then I would say hunter gatherer societies possessed some ideas about spirituality whilst being fundamentally unconcerned with material wealth
