I think music is subjective for the most part. There aren't quantifiable ways to prove one song is better than the next.
However, there are universally loved traits about music that most can agree are of a higher quality (just to play devil's advocate)
Do some take advantage of the subjective argument because they have no real argument?
If someone has no argument when faced with a question about "what u like sucks" then there is no reason for that same person to ever critically listen to music cause they don't need to
no its the truth b
This artist is "trash" or this is "classic" are the real cop outs b
I think it's a lot less subjective than is usually subjected. Like a lot of things can legitimately be quantified as good or bad.
IF MUSIC WAS OBJECTIVE THEN SEVERAL ARTISTS WOULD NOT EXIST TODAY. we would all be listening to complex math rock, classical, and s*** with weird time signatures cause its complex and on the hip hop side we would be blasting eminem and really complex fast rappers all of the time.
the effort and dedication put into music is objective
it is still subjective in a***ysis
You can like something that’s not good but people don’t want to hear what they’re listening to be called not good
no its the truth b
This artist is "trash" or this is "classic" are the real cop outs b
you kinda right
aint no kinda about it b
so you think saying sumn like illmatic is classic is just a copout?
I view music as like 75 % subjective and 25 % objective
realistically one could argue that it's closer to 90 % but I won't enter discussions with that premise cuz it makes discussions f***ing boring and I genuinely believe there are certain standards when it comes to quality of lyrics, musical composition, creativity, etc which can all be measured objectively to a certain extent
