    Music is good or bad

Tyler the creator (for example) is bad

Lmao @ people trying to say it’s completely subjective. You need some objective logical basis for a***yzing art. Everyone agrees that my elementary school art projects are trash. Or that the writing for The Room is too cringe to be taken seriously. Why can’t we talk about music the same way? So sick of this annoying reddit take of “its subjective”.

so you think saying sumn like illmatic is classic is just a copout?

In an actual discussion? Absolutely b

I respect descriptive a***ysis, I hate number ratings and umbrella terms b

I think ‘subjective anything’ is a cop out. There’s only one fact, what’s good and what’s bad. Trying to distort that is a cop out

If a song goes #1 in america it’s objectively a good song

I think music is subjective for the most part. There aren't quantifiable ways to prove one song is better than the next.

However, there are universally loved traits about music that most can agree are of a higher quality (just to play devil's advocate)

Do some take advantage of the subjective argument because they have no real argument?

Music is subjective because what you enjoy is ultimately based on you as an individual. There will always be objective factors that exist. Like how varied an artist’s flows are or how dense their lyrics are, but enjoying these objective markers is subjective. And being better than one artists in some objective term does not make their music good, it just means they’re good at doing a thing. If they’re good at doing many things, it still doesn’t mean the music is “good” because art’s goal is to be expressive and appreciated which has no correlation with any objective traits. It’s such a meaningless argument and it only exists because people want for things to be compared and competitive when there is no point in it
