arguably the first true tiktok artist, and one of the best to blow up through the app is pinkpantheress. She makes jungle/drum n bass inspired tunes, and usually previews them on tiktok weeks before she actually releases any songs. She has done this from the very start of her career, meaning the very first platform her first song was on was tiktok (why i call her the first true tiktok artist). Usually these snippets get massively popular, and her songs are already viral before they even release.
personally, what she's doing is killer. this is my favorite song of hers:
I wanna talk about what her music means tho. like in the context of drum and bass its the most basic s***. soooo many people call dnb pinkpantheress music now, and it's really weird. her music is like the most consumer friendly lowbrow form of the genre, even though it's good music.
I think looking at where she fits in is a great case study in how the platform someone is based on affects how their music ends up being perceived. So many of her fans use her as their token "not rap" artist, as some form of validation when it comes to music taste. even though she isn't even underground or anything at all, and listening to her only signifies being on tiktok a lot. I'm split between being a supporter or just observing from a distance, because I like the music but the movement is so hard to get behind, and her fanbase is just so corny (i mean obviously it is, it's tiktok).
i know this is a long ass OP i just felt like writing tonight. if it's too long for u to read i really don't care. u cant do s*** abt it haha
UPDATE: she's here lmao
Proof for all you sorry ass pessimistic f***s who said it was fake >:/
Bro if u like the music listen, for example I Travis but he got the corniest fan base out there. As for the tik tok rollout I think it's cool. My biggest issue is that it gets old fast and I never wanna listen to the song bc they over use the sound and ruin it
its good music who cares about the fanbase thats just insecurity on your part
also no s*** its not complex dnb - its pop music at its core ofc its gonna be watered down from more serious dnb. but she's working w some top level electronic producers like Mura Masa and potentially Vegyn and Kaytranada so idk how fair it is to say its lowbrow
tiktok as a whole is good for music - an artist like her would've really struggled without a platform like tiktok and I fully expect to see more great artists like her come from the platform as it matures
she's great
she's definitely a breathe of fresh air and she's nowhere near her potential yet. i think with time she will break into the real mainstream tbh and refining her sound too - she's said that she's still at uni while doing music so it's music is definitely not her only priority.
i honesty just want a full length with fleshed out songs with heavy dnb influence tbh. her voice is also amazing.
Who the f*** is this, only a few songs out yet she's all over my feed and got millions of plays. Is this a big joke I'm not in on
Always knew jungle would get a resurgence in the mainstream
jungle is so amazing man

she just makes fire music
she just makes fire music
Agreed, just getting plant vibes from her (not that it's a big deal)
she’s great and u should support her either way op i see what u saying though about her fanbase’s knowledge of dnb n garage. I don’t think it’s that serious though and she tries to bring up that she isn’t the originator of the sound when she can

nah tiktok just has an algorithm that lets smaller artists blow up
plus because her core fanbase is from tiktok they blow up her snippets
she's signed to a relatively small UK label iirc
