she not a plant but parlophone ain't a small label
oh right yea my bad someone told me its Coldplays label
ive never heard her on tiktok but pain, passion, and the new one are masterpieces. She’d blow up anywhere.
I think we’ll start hearing major artists imitate her sound in the near future too
ohhh yeah in 2 years kehlani is suddenly going to be singing over diet aphex interpolations out of nowhere
its good music who cares about the fanbase thats just insecurity on your part
also no s*** its not complex dnb - its pop music at its core ofc its gonna be watered down from more serious dnb. but she's working w some top level electronic producers like Mura Masa and potentially Vegyn and Kaytranada so idk how fair it is to say its lowbrow
tiktok as a whole is good for music - an artist like her would've really struggled without a platform like tiktok and I fully expect to see more great artists like her come from the platform as it matures
no ur totally right, its just weird for me being on tiktok and knowing people irl who use tiktok. I see so many people who really think they're on some special s*** by listening to her. it's classic gentrification, where a newcomer profits greatly off a sound by catering to an audience completely unfamiliar w it. although i had no idea she's doing stuff w mura masa and vegyn thats dope.
I'm gonna support her either way tbh, and am very excited to see where she goes, I've been there since the very first snippet, so this is definitely my train to ride lol. it just feels icky knowing that her fans are like this lol. makes me understand why guys like dean blunt make their music so inaccessible, it keeps it from getting too normie, for lack of a better word.
it's not like her music is "tiktok bait"
her s*** would have blown up in like 2010 on tumblr or on soundcloud if this was a couple years ago
I'm not on tiktok but I've had multiple friends send me videos of her s***
Personally as someone whose seen careers like Rocky jump start off of Peso and Thug with Danny glover i can't buy into new artists just because they're being force fed to me everywhere
Every artist needs their breakout moment where a song truly just blows up off word of mouth like XO Tour Lyfe or Magnolia not catchy earworms planted by labels on trending social media platforms

lmao very true

yea thats totally valid
you just gotta look at it in that she's exposing more people to that genre even if it comes w another bunch of people who dont bother to learn more about the genre and think its something revolutionary
its insecure to let a corny fanbase affect your enjoyment of music you think is good

i can see it all so clearly

yes notorious independent artists Playboi Carti and Lil Uzi Vert
I don't know if pinkpantheress is as good for music as she is good for social media music culture. its no surprise that parlophone picked her up in the same way they picked up James Blake in 2010. like @Killa_K said its generic for purists and I dont see her becoming any more experimental with it bc ive seen this type of trajectory tens of times at this point, but if we have a prominent alt-pop artist serving as a substantial portal into experimental/avant-garde music scenes again I don't think purists should shun that out. just because everything is on the internet doesn't mean kids know where to find it if you get my drift.

good post

i don't think it's insecure tbh, an artist's persona (which is definitely influenced by fan behavior) can drastically affect how much someone enjoys an artist's music.
Oliver Tree has some decent sounding stuff but I'd rather be caught dead than indulge in that corny f***s music, I think u can understand that lol.
If i was insecure abt music taste i wouldn't proudly listen to drain gang and drake. (funny how drain gang is lame to people who enjoy drake, and drake is usually lame to people who enjoy drain gang)

bro THANK YOU Oliver Tree is a very keen songwriter but I wouldn't be able to look in the mirror after listening to a full album of his

I think if the art is influenced by the fans then for sure youre valid in being less interested
like Oliver tree is really corny as an individual and something like rick and morty clearly has started to play more and more into the corny parts of the fanbase making the show worse and in that case youre totally right that its not insecure to enjoy those less
I dont think pinkpanntheress fits that though at least not yet
im just talking about if you dont wanna be associated w the fanbase of an artist you like (both musically and as a persona) because the fanbase is awful then thats insecurity

ngl ive never looked into whether she was signed or not, i always assumed she was just on distrokid bc she keeps dropping random singles. makes me look at her tiktok blowup differently tbh. paying for promotion is literally baked into the app, anybody with a following has access to it. It's completely realistic that her "viral" hits are way less organic than they seem.
music still good tho which is all that really matters in the end lol
@safe @fiveprestos what if we started a music blog lol
feel like @sentient_sherm_bag and @user would be good additions as well
I just get turned off by the hive mind s*** and people pushing artists as the “future” or “the best out” I hate hyperboles

idk if blogs are even still really a thing tbh
but I will say theres some features on the roadmap for ktt2 to encourage posts like this and potentially to turn into articles and kinda fostering journalism on the site
