i was definitely not signed by the time my first singles were “blowing up” i think this and the other “paid” label input assumptions is sumn i’m keen on clearing up cos i fully spent a whole year trying to use tiktok for my benefit music wise only to fail many times a year before anything ended up getting traction. i simply found a formula that ended up working consistently and it is as simple as that my g and the rest is history 🤣
Let me send beats 💓

make ktt proud
arguably the first true tiktok artist, and one of the best to blow up through the app is pinkpantheress. She makes jungle/drum n bass inspired tunes, and usually previews them on tiktok weeks before she actually releases any songs. She has done this from the very start of her career, meaning the very first platform her first song was on was tiktok (why i call her the first true tiktok artist). Usually these snippets get massively popular, and her songs are already viral before they even release.
personally, what she's doing is killer. this is my favorite song of hers:
!https://youtu.be/6tPTrgGptU0I wanna talk about what her music means tho. like in the context of drum and bass its the most basic s***. soooo many people call dnb pinkpantheress music now, and it's really weird. her music is like the most consumer friendly lowbrow form of the genre, even though it's good music.
I think looking at where she fits in is a great case study in how the platform someone is based on affects how their music ends up being perceived. So many of her fans use her as their token "not rap" artist, as some form of validation when it comes to music taste. even though she isn't even underground or anything at all, and listening to her only signifies being on tiktok a lot. I'm split between being a supporter or just observing from a distance, because I like the music but the movement is so hard to get behind, and her fanbase is just so corny (i mean obviously it is, it's tiktok).
i know this is a long ass OP i just felt like writing tonight. if it's too long for u to read i really don't care. u cant do s*** abt it haha
UPDATE: she's here lmao
