the music has been alright, i vibed with to hell with it and the remixes and she definitely seem like she has vision, the just for me video was super cute and i loved how it was in like 360p to have that hauntological feel (she was a film major iirc) but as a musical artist she is the definition of mid although she is definitely not an exceptional example of that or anything, just the state of the industry rn. A girl with a pretty face and a nice body but can't sing for s*** without using autotune as a crutch and doesn't write her own s***. Yeah I know she writes the lyrics (so she claims, I mean I believe her but you never know I guess) But to hell with it is mostly classic d&b instrumentals she found on YT of course and her new album is produced by a bunch of dudes. I prefer Nia archives myself when it comes to her lane, she's actually really talented and does it all from what I understand. can't help to feel there's a touch of pretty privilege there (nia is a beautiful girl don't get me wrong but PP is more white looking and more lightskin)

A perfect example is her boiler room set though. That "performance" was basically just her Lip syncing to playback and shouting in her thick English accent. Had to skip through that b**** because it was so boring, only to find that FLO In the middle and shows these young MFs what true VOCALISTS sound like. I thought that was so fye, those ladies fine as hell too. If anything the most I can thank pinkpantheress for is putting Flo on a nigga radar

off a song she just sang over, with autotune, that she didn't make. whether she showed her face or not has no bearing on most of what I said, and she showed her face quickly afterwards anyway

Why did I add the part about how she is a pretty girl with a nice body who can't sing for s*** or make her own music Even though I knew the song blew up before her face was visible on TikTok? Because that don't matter. I don't get why you're trying to act like her appearance didn't have any effect on her very fast rise. I ain't gonna deny that pain was a hit off of the song's own merits (not necessarily PP cuz... she didn't actually truly make it, again, just crooned over it, which for sure takes taste and creativity, yes, but you can't really say she "made the song") but to act like what I said is irrelevant is crazy especially with how much she's subtly relying on her s***appeal now more than ever

Think about it. She don't got pipes, she can't make music, but she cute and got a nice body and is lightskin. What does she actually bring to the table? She got a vision, sure, but that's about it. And before y'all bring up Ye or some s*** I keep the same energy for that nigga too. He has barely made his own music at all since at least Pablo, bro doesn't even write his own lyrics anymore, he just tells more talented people like Mike or Noah Goldstein or Jeff Bhasker what he wants to do or sumn prolly

Anyway basically my point is that PP doesn't bring anything to the table musically aside from being to write some lyrics that are, for the most part, some a little better than nursery rhyme tier pop lyric s***. Think of someone like Beyoncé. Sure she ain't writing her own s*** (as much as she used to pretend she did 💀) but guess what? She brings them pipes, and she got vision to spare (self titled, renaissance and b'day as proof). i never seen PP sing live for real, just playback or autotuned s***. Leon Russell got an annoying ass weak ass shrill ass voice but guess what? He wrote 'a song for you' and Donny Hathaway turned that into one of the most beautiful recordings ever recorded.

That's all I'm saying. In this day and age you don't have to bring anything to the table aside from an image. Even Rihanna had to be able to sing back in the day, she's not that great (i like anti but she ain't a vocalist like that) but she can definitely hold her own, and she makes these new girls look like Kardashians in the talent department. S*** if Kim Kardashian or Paris Hilton tried to have music careers like when they were young in this day and age, I bet you they would've been successful. Obviously PP has more substance than they ever would have, but I think I've made my point.

I still like to hell with it, but I'm generally just tired of more talented artists that actually make their own music getting left in the dust for some image ass hoes that ain't even primarily musicians. If Prince weren't such a beautiful gorgeous man (pause) I sincerely doubt he would've found success in today's industry, and I can safely say he still would've found success back then based on the merits of his musical ability alone, because that s*** actually mattered back in his day.

So yeah I mean I sort of regret aiming this as a kind of attack on PP because like I've said I like some of her music, I'm just lamenting the state of the industry. I mean look at the nigga I stan... is it any surprise?
