When I noticed that songs like P***ography, Wasted, Antidote, Flying High, OK Alright, and Never Catch Me didn’t hit the same way they used to, I started thinking that Rodeo wasn’t a classic
I’m not even a big fan of the album but I’m confused about the way this site discusses music. You’re so obsessed with music “aging well” that you disqualify something from being a classic if it’s a product of its time. Of course it’s a product of its time, all music is a reflection of when it was released. I don’t even know what “aging well” means exactly. Dre’s The Chronic is a product of its time, it sounds like when it came out. It’s not suddenly not a classic the more years go by where that becomes more noticeable. You guys do this with music that’s not even a decade old.
I think “age” in the context of music refers to whether or not the music can still be as enjoyable as it was years prior. Although I agree, every album will be a product of their time, KTT (myself included) hold an unrealistically high standard to music where if it isn’t timeless, it isn’t a classic. I think that this standard works to weed out albums overtime but it isn’t something to be relied on
Yeah I'm not buying it
You're trying to convince me that the artists you mentioned look to Rodeo as a blueprint but dont utilize nearly as dynamic of sequencing, diverse features, genre fluidness etc. I'm not even a rodeo fan and none of these artists even hold a candle to the album
I would be more convinced and would agree with you if you just said that every producer under 30 loves DBR and subconsciously makes every beat with its many elements in mind
its like calling that yg album from 2014 a classic just because Mustard inspired everyone to hop on mustard beats in the 2 years after it came out
that yg album is a classic because it's one of the best and realest west coast albums of the past like 20 years

Still hitting as hard for me

Sounds like a problem
Should’ve learned how to appreciate

It absolutely is a “me” problem
Running thru Rodeo again this week when I get the time. Some of the takes in here made me want to visit it again to see how I feel about it now.
Lol this album has entered that weird old but not old enough to be a classic phase discussion where it’s cool to hate on it because mainstream has only recently been moving away from the sound
Ask this 2 years ago 8/10 people on here were saying it’s a classic
It’s a classic and y’all will claim that in 5 years watch

Exactly because listeners/consumers of tired of that psychedelic trap and so it’s influence on up and coming popular rappers is minimal compared to 15-19

The idea that something becomes less enjoyable over time rarely has anything to do with the music itself and everything to do with the context the person listening applies to it.
