I’m not even a big fan of the album but I’m confused about the way this site discusses music. You’re so obsessed with music “aging well” that you disqualify something from being a classic if it’s a product of its time. Of course it’s a product of its time, all music is a reflection of when it was released. I don’t even know what “aging well” means exactly. Dre’s The Chronic is a product of its time, it sounds like when it came out. It’s not suddenly not a classic the more years go by where that becomes more noticeable. You guys do this with music that’s not even a decade old.

Shut this entire thread down, real s***

hate that term being used to imply dated when it be should used w/ a neutral connotation meaning that it is literally characteristic of its time period

  • May 17, 2022

hate the term dated as well but not writing out an essay abt that for this thread lol

  • May 17, 2022

yup. great album and better than 95% of mainstream rap albums that have came out since

  • May 17, 2022

But Travis is always of the time so it won’t age amazingly, still fye tho

what a well thought out take

Rodeo has apple pie and flying high which are borderline unlistenable, antidote night crawler and Piss on your grave are ok

Dbr has like 2-3 decent songs the rest are insane

and nailing it to a T provided a blueprint for other artists to springboard themselves into the genre

don toliver, culture-era migos, nav, ssgkobe, pop smoke, juice wrld, etc sound more like trav than any kanye song

Don Toliver reminds me more of Akon just using Travis’s vocal effects (obviously he’s signed to Travis so the influence is undeniable though), and i’ll always say Travis & Quavo evolved their sounds in similar ways at the same time around 2016, but accurate on the rest

Apple Pie is the best song on Rodeo that doesn’t feature Young Thug, Wale a legend for writing it

apple pie and flying high are good songs (apple pie is actually a big high point on the album for me)

they both have some of the more unorthodox production on the album I guess so I can see why they wouldn't be ur fav
