it’s the one where many generations can share love over but i’ve seen the fair amount of hate for that type of s***

Soul samples are good when you actually take those samples and create something new. No one does that now,their literally taking a part of a song,maybe chopping it and looping the s*** out of that one part.

Its technically sampling but at the same time,its a very bad version of it

I think the main art of sampling is having that ear to hear the right section/loop and knowing intuitively that it’s gonna hit the right way and/or display the vibe you’re trying to express… chops/reverses are a nice bonus but I don’t think that’s what makes the art what it is at its core

Used to be sampling somewhat obscure songs, not too obscure mind, just not blindlingly popular. Now these jabronis will just look at the Billboard biggest hits and pick a song at random to rap over.

It doesn’t,but some of this s*** nowadays is just lazy. And its hard not to compare stuff now to back then,when the legends(Premier,9th Wonder,Dilla etc)were still going hard cause,alot of s*** being put on albums now,would barely qualify as rough drafts for a beat.

Sampling does require taste and a good ear,loops are cool too,but,you still need good timing on the loop and good stereo dynamics on the track to make it compelling. Dudes cant even be bothered with that,guys are just straight up dropping flat,uncompelling loops and attempting to make them last for a full song.
