way better than generic trap beats
I love sampling but I hate this mindset when it comes to them.
Soul sample beats can be just as generic as trap beats, and nobody seems to realize that
Amen brother! I missed when they used to sample obscure stuff like The Police
!https://youtu.be/NKMtZm2YuBEImagine comparing the artistry and outburst of emotion of Sean Combs, also known by his stage names Puff Daddy, P. Diddy, Diddy, or Puffy alongside the great 112 to this s*** they're doing right now. You don't know ball I'm afraid

Kay Flock and Cardi clear
It definitely is, to the point that some people are annoying about it and look down on trap music etc..
Used to be sampling somewhat obscure songs, not too obscure mind, just not blindlingly popular. Now these jabronis will just look at the Billboard biggest hits and pick a song at random to rap over.
yeah we def not talking about this s*** trend.
talking about the mo town chipmunk singing your soul out chops
Dope rhymes over soul beats is the one constant that will always get love no matter the era
Honestly sampling itself is timeless and is the key to music never having limits
There is a finite amount of chord progressions and s*** that sound good but there are endless ways that different people will sample the same song from pitches to technique to effects etc
Soul samples are good when you actually take those samples and create something new. No one does that now, their literally taking a part of a song, maybe chopping it and looping the s*** out of that one part.
Its technically sampling but at the same time, its a very bad version of it
It’s art this is not americas got talent or something lol

Art is still a matter of taste ,and there's good taste and bad taste. All art is subjective but alot of art can be considered "distasteful" and i think the art of sampling today is "distasteful".
When you got beautiful s*** like this as the tools at your disposal you're already at an advantage. It's not a lay up, but it's about executing imo

They're not common enough anymore in the mainstream to feel that way though
People are speaking out against oversaturation more than anything

I agree to an extent but back in the day popular songs were getting sampled too, whether it was a break beat or a vocal sample. I mean James Brown was arguably the most popular black entertainer in history at one point

U have every right to that take my bad for being hostile . I just think you’d enjoy the genre more if your perception of it was a lil less rigid & you enjoyed the sound for what it is on face instead of a preconceived criteria of what it should be . It’s a bit like expecting everything rapper to be a technical MC

Im trying but i listen to so much music,im not necessarily saying how things should be,im saying everything now feels half-assed compared to what was done in the past. The sampling thats done today,if i feel its mediocre,i just go back to the stuff i know is better.
