No, I kind of took your point a step further uintentionallt, what I meant is that I’m thinking about Bruno, his music doesn’t have that same appeal to the heart as, even let’s say die for you or true colors. Not all dark music is good either. Because a track like initiation is just dark for the sake of it and all it does is show depravity

My og post was cause of the Usher disrespect

But even with Bruno; Bruno is bland because everything about him is conventional: his voice, visuals, beats, melodies, lyrics, videos, everything. It’s conventional done at an extremely high level but only conventional nonetheless

Maybe it’s drakes sound cause drake bought half the songs off him to make his first ever classic?

Weeknd gave drake 5 songs and that’s it, and some of those weren’t even that similar

Like w practice drake was the one who had the idea to use the juve sample, crew love drake/40 was the one who redid the beat, rumored that the ride was just the hook and empty verses

I disagree, but tbf Usher hated that song too

The Label forced him to put it on the album

That makes a lot of sense

I think he made it or at least heavily laid the blueprint for that dark r&b that’s so prevalent

    Party definitely built on it

So Toronto is the birthplace for dark rnb (the one that's prelevant now) ?

  • I think the more interesting question would be that if you thought he wasn't a legend, why lol

    Explain.

This mf weeknd does not make inspired pop music lmao stop lying to urselves

For sure but the songs on take care that most influenced that sound are largely those ones

Like something like headlines or the Rihanna track obviously wasn’t what changed that sound

The Ride was The Weeknd's voice on loop

Nah, look at TML vs Take Care. Weeknd influence was all over Take Care. Even though he only wrote a few songs.

And drake & Weeknd attributed that to them listening to dirty sprite 1 and wanting to make their music sound more like that according to an interview drake did

  • What couldve been

    yea mainly
Obviously that stemmed from 808s and t pain and the dream as well but it’s largely Toronto that’s the source of that

oh yea don’t get me wrong he took plenty of influence from others to do that sound

But I think the primary influence was Trilogy/Take Care in 2011

Oh yeah I agree but I also strongly hold to party being the one who turned that sound into the one everybody kinda is using now

Yeah for sure I mentioned Ill in a later post. It’s really a linear thing honestly that’s expanding to this day

Trilogy inspired by SFG, TC inspired by Trilogy, Party inspired by the both..

    agree 100%
People gonna say I’m slandering but party removed the wild vocals and the left field s*** from trilogy which let that sound go mainstream
