Lady gaga has more chances of becoming a legend and probably didn't have 5 number ones on one album (still plenty of hits)

Nicki minaj is in that icon boat too and only got her number 1 hit from a remix last year.

A legend imo is determined when it's all said and done, and Katy doesn't measure up to be a legend (yet and it's not looking good tbh) however she really had a great run and impacting moments making her a pop icon

Stars in this era are not vocalists like they used to be. Listen to Weeknd’s hits - vocals are not the central piece to any of them like they used to be. The only artist who fits that Bill today is Adele

The Weeknd is not mainstream enough to be MJ or Prince legend.

Tbh there isn't any newer stars besides Drake that really will be remembered like that by the overall public. And Drake is only up there cuz he's omnipresent in the culture, unlike the Weeknd who sticks to music only.

If he can make a few more massive hits like Blinding Lights, as well as another iconic album like After Hours, I think he will be definitely be considered a legend. But MJ is untouchable imo. And Prince is as well (closest to him is Kanye).

I don’t think you’ll ever see artists that single-handedly dominate music and pop culture like James Brown, Michael and Prince did again. Everybody since then has felt like a derivation of those guys.

It’s all about that presence. Abel just doesn’t have that. I don’t think he ever will either. But maybe that’s something on how modern celebrity works. Too much visibility. These artists from the past felt almost godly.
