I can understand where you're coming from. However, has it not happened to you where an individual has said something that they proclaim is "deep" and they think themselves so intelligent because if it, yet its like basic entry level knowledge? This i would say is a "pseudo-intellectual"

I have but I don’t ever write them off

Even if I don’t think it’s deep that person does and it’s inconsiderate not to acknowledge it. You can disagree by all means but to classify ones thinking as “fake deep” is just detrimental to open discussion and leads to less sharing which leads to less information which leads to less knowledge

Do you get what I’m getting at?

As art yea i can definitely understand what John Cage was trying to do but then theres youtube videos of people actually performing the piece and it just straight up looks ridiculous

    I wonder what it inspired

No because this was from the 1950s

Something from today like some rap songs for example is far more pretentious

This idea of “faux-intellectualism” or “fake deep” or “pseudo intellectual” is very bad for open minded and comprehensive discussions

Philosophy and the study of the psychology is all subjective. It’s open to however many interpretations you want that’s the point

Sharing information with others and discussing, a***yzing and reflecting

There is a vein of anti-intellectualism that is pervasive in these modern times. Anything remotely sophisticated or requiring some thought is immediately condemned as pretentious. Pisses me off.

This post would probably be seen as pretentious because I used some so-called “big words” when, in reality, people just need to read more

Definitely. These people exist. And they should absolutely be judged with disdain and contempt because s***’s ridiculous

    They were great

They were but some s*** just makes me roll my eyes...I like William S Burroughs and Allen Ginsberg a lot...I mean Bob Dylan was kinda birthed from this period and went on to inspire the counterculture of the 1960s...but I do not get Jack Kerouac at all.

    It really is a masterpiece.

I've been lowkey thinking of making an experimental album with white noise and silence. I want profit tho so I ain't gonna do it

It's about audacity and having balls, and being the first one to think of it.
The composer had fun and the audience had fun too.
