This is who they list for female r&b:

The women in R&B are as accomplished as ever, as artists and entertainers — take SZA, Janelle Monáe, Jazmine Sullivan, Victoria Monét and Jorja Smith as just a few examples.

So since Usher, I’d say Jeremih, Miguel, Ty$, PND have had success

Chris was post Usher and Trey Songz even was on the path for a little while

You're obviously too young to remember the status of Usher around 1997-2004. CB has never reached that level of success or fame. Confessions sold 14 millions in the US alone and he was arguably the biggest artist in the world when that album peaked. Chris Brown's status in R&B is higher than it should be due to the fact that he's been active during the "not-at-all-golden-era of R&B".

  • Jbreezyondeck

Yes because a combination of blurring the lines between hip hop and R&B, contemporary R&B not lining up with how millennials + gen Z treat/view love and how that’s reflected lyrically, and finally just the fact that Usher is truly a once in a generation talent and niggas barely can sing these days outside of the studio well here we are

The reason why Usher is R&B’s last male superstar is cause even in his Wiggley Gum commercial prime, Chris Brown NEVER had an album like Confessions.

The thing about that Super Bowl is…Usher has a CATALOG. Dog didnt even play all his hits. There are “deep cuts” (e.g. Seduction) that would still ring off.

CB dont got a catalog like that.

AND you can argue he played a major role in the decline of male r&b as far as blurring the lines between rappers and singers
