You're obviously too young to remember the status of Usher around 1997-2004. CB has never reached that level of success or fame. Confessions sold 14 millions in the US alone and he was arguably the biggest artist in the world when that album peaked. Chris Brown's status in R&B is higher than it should be due to the fact that he's been active during the "not-at-all-golden-era of R&B".
Ok
na hasn't had a smash in years n his last 2 albums flopped he still doing well off big world tours though
No guidance? Under the influence? To a lesser extent Sensational?
The reason why Usher is R&B’s last male superstar is cause even in his Wiggley Gum commercial prime, Chris Brown NEVER had an album like Confessions.
The thing about that Super Bowl is…Usher has a CATALOG. Dog didnt even play all his hits. There are “deep cuts” (e.g. Seduction) that would still ring off.
CB dont got a catalog like that.
AND you can argue he played a major role in the decline of male r&b as far as blurring the lines between rappers and singers
Chris brown definitely got a catalog comparable to Usher even tho I prefer ushers
too many amazing acts now and not just mainstream acts.
best genre by far right now
name a few, put me on

Chris Brown and Trey Songz were the last two true R&B male superstars.

Read this article from NPR about Usher's Super Bowl performance and the state of Male R&B. In the female R&B space, the idea of curating performances, choreography, showmanship and all of that is really important but in the male R&B space it's become less of a thing. We also have way less of a stan culture when it comes to male R&B singers. My question is, do you think it's possible for men in the R&B space to gain some sort of traction? and if so, how?
In addition, are there any new/current male R&B acts that are inhabiting that energy?
