chris brown was definitely one he just flopped in the latter half of his prime too often
You're delusional if you think CB is up there with Weeknd and Justin Bieber. EVERYONE can name a Weeknd song but most non-R&B fans either only knows Chris Brown as the guy who beat Rihanna, or they don't really know much about him at all.
I think most people know Forever if anything at least from The Office
I could argue for other songs too but I’ll stick with that one
r&b in general just can’t exist like it once did anymore, unless real chords, bridges and choruses come back but kids not fw that no more and a lot of it was very performative looking back sometimes
I'd argue The Weeknd is the last remnant, although he has transitioned to Pop yet he still himself. I don't mention Frank cause I feel he comes and goes.
With that said, I feel that we rn just have R&B sensations/Black superstars at the moment. Similar to how artists such as SWV, Ginuwine, Donell Jones, etc. were popular yet noticeably backed by the Black community. I think the closest ones we have to that realm are Brent Faiyaz, Lucky Daye, Ari Lennox, 6LACK etc. It's clear we're going through a transition period.
I lowkey believe Khalid and Giveon had those lanes but they're either becoming irrelevant or disappeared.

Read this article from NPR about Usher's Super Bowl performance and the state of Male R&B. In the female R&B space, the idea of curating performances, choreography, showmanship and all of that is really important but in the male R&B space it's become less of a thing. We also have way less of a stan culture when it comes to male R&B singers. My question is, do you think it's possible for men in the R&B space to gain some sort of traction? and if so, how?
In addition, are there any new/current male R&B acts that are inhabiting that energy?
I was saying this in the wrong way when I asked where is the showmanship and dancing when it came to music videos with male leads. Male R&B singers want to be mysterious now

Silk Sonic brought all that back to the mainstream with an OG at the helms but no one wanted it
R&b in a better place than its ever been fight me
Hell na when people are gassing up and riding for 4Batz
Fridayy ate Giveon
I agree Fridayy is Giveon's replacement. Such a cold world
Plus he has a better voice and he can sing live
Hell na when people are gassing up and riding for 4Batz
I think he has a different sound that I'm cool with. R&B doesn't always have to be one way

But we already got Brent
But we already got Brent
That maybe true. However, remember when Brent was first coming out and people use to say that he came from that PND cloth It can be applied to how we see it now. If Brent was seen as a PND seed and then evolved into something completely different than 4Batz too. Although, he's deemed Brentcore, I'm starting to believe he's kinda more attuned to Jim Legacy and a bit of 454
Hell na when people are gassing up and riding for 4Batz
lot more r&b artists than 4batz

Usher Worldwide sales: 75 million
CB worldwide sales: 140 million
Silk Sonic brought all that back to the mainstream with an OG at the helms but no one wanted it
nigga that Silk Sonic s*** was some of the most soulless funk&b i’ve ever heard lol
it didn’t stick because the s*** was plastic and manufactured as hell
that Silk Sonic s*** sounded like something you’d hear in one of those run of the mill comedy-drama black relationship shows that you watch while you’re getting your hair done
so painfully generic
