Who did he influence that's genuinely great?
nigga thugger influence elton john stop
He arguably was years ago just for how he impacted the game. Once Uzi and them drop that’s when he’s a legend IMO bc he forever altered the rap game
Not being funny/ironic either
He just dont have the discography to match which hopefully is the silver lining in him getting this time to sit down and plot out where he wants to go next assuming they don’t bam him the f*** outta here. Hytunes never dropping as a real album with one of those pre 2016-2018 style rollout moments f***ed up his artistic trajectory
The wild thing about Thug is that he does have the discography.
It just has been lost between the leaks and the unreleased s***.
For instance about 75% of thug fans prolly dont know the song in the OP.
Thug has thousands of songs like that. Where he reaches even more ridiculous levels.
It all plays into the lore tho. Truly a one of one type of rapper.
lil baby gunna yeat lil keed lil gotit carti uzi
What did he bring to those rappers styles that Lil Wayne hadn't already, the melodies?

thug has a wider vocal range than wayne
Uzi Carti for starters. I mean Carti legit says slat which I thought was Thug's thing first
I do feel like Rocky is in a lot of ways Carti's biggest influence, the playful energy and cloud rap style of production he dropped on S/T.
I just feel like people here are throwing around the word legend, who cares if a bunch of c-tier rappers ended up biting Thug's style (not saying Uzi or Carti are c-tier, others) or put some slang terms in there. You can be influential but that doesn't make you a legend right?

his music changed so much after s/t what a dogshit example
even during that era carti's biggest influence during that time was keef so that mf is still wrong
as far as i know
his music changed so much after s/t what a dogshit example
Take a look at some of Carti's leak from post 2018/2019 I feel that original sound still got carried on a fair bit

I think for people who love music, influential =/= legend since we recognize you have to have a good catalogue in your own right. But to most people I think if you're influential and remembered in a good light you're a legend.
There's plenty of legends who don't really have a great discog outside of 1 classic album or a string of classic singles

I don't think you're wrong about Rocky --> Carti though. I just think he has multiple influences like most artists
You aren’t part of the culture if you don’t think thugger is a legend
that simple

i would argue that the music on die lit was different from self titled
and i would say it was even more different with the leaks

How many legends do you think there are in hip-hop, like roughly?
I think trying to cover all four decades there has got to be around 100 right? But if the definition is just popular rappers (with or without influence) that a lot of people like then we get to a way bigger number and the term gets watered down.

yeah i think rocky influenced carti for sure but i feel people like pierre bourne, thug, future, keef had a bigger influence musically

I think he evolved with each album but feel like the influences on the debut tape have the most impact since that's the birth of the artist.
I haven't heard a lot of the pre 2017 stuff he did, but Freestyle 4 the People too

I won't bother tryna count that lmao I'll make a fool of myself. But I think "legend" is similar to the term "classic" in that the people decide by simple majority. If everyone says you a legend / have a classic then you do
