"After several months of regaining equilibrium, Rashad began recording the album in earnest last January. Moosa booked a month-long block of studio time and Rashad laid down roughly 20 songs. The final track listing was culled from a master vault that contains about 60 songs. In typical Rashad fashion, he says that the ones he’s most proud of were left on the cutting room floor. Practically ballads, they were deemed too slow for the more mid- and up-tempo pace of The House is Burning. “Something slow and swinging always sounds the best to me,” he says.
