ryunyusefI’m not saying whether china should or shouldn’t involve itself but providing weapons, training, troops, and direct assistance to anti-imperialist movements was a matter of principle to Mao, whereas dengist china is far more pragmatic than ideological.
Iran is a pretty unique case though. They seem hesitant take military aid in the same way other countries would want to. They've dragged their feet on this for years and realistically should have been far more prepared.
Delayed jet shipments from Russia, not codifying defense deals with Moscow, delaying shipments of anti-ship missiles from China (2 years just to negotiate and only sped up after 12 Day War), slow to accept significant help and lacking any real effort to nail their horrifying counterintelligence flaws.
Its also on them to accept significant aid, which Khamenei was often hesitant towards. Let's not act like Chinese economic support wasn't their lifeline these last few years too. China risked secondary sanctions just to keep Tehran afloat (they have far more important M.E economic partners) and never backed down
