    Sir Real

Also thank you to all contributing updates, particularly @Speak . I’m glued to the news but frankly (and I don’t like admitting these type of things) it’s gotten so depressing it’s hard to keep wanting to put anymore effort in than that. But I promise I will do a better job of providing updates and I’ll get OP updated with the latest soon.

Appreciate the shout but I'm just thankful to have a place to have consistently updated and informative conversations about one of the most catastrophically critical matters of our time

Props to the recommitment to updates but you been great regarding that throughout both threads

And when it comes to the difficult feelings you're going through... it's nothing but the worst horrors people can go through day in and day out while millions passively or actively take up the banner and propaganda of two of the most heinous forces on this planet

I don't see how anyone with any shred of soul that's paying attention wouldn't feel some combination of sorrow, rage, fear etc and wouldn't be paralyzed by those feelings here and there so really don't sweat a partial slowing of the updates

It's surreal thinking back to the first couple weeks of this with so many people riding the fence seemingly in good faith. A lot of them mostly abandoned the subject all together rather than adjust their worldview.

UNITED NATIONS (AP) — The United Nations Security Council on Monday demanded a cease-fire in Gaza during the Muslim holy month of Ramadan, its first demand to halt fighting.

The United States abstained on the resolution, which also demanded the release of all hostages taken captive during Hamas’ Oct. 7 surprise attack in southern Israel. But the measure does not link that demand to the cease-fire during Ramadan, which ends April 9.
The vote comes after Russia and China vetoed a U.S.-sponsored resolution Friday that would have supported “an immediate and sustained cease-fire” in the Israeli-Hamas conflict.

The United States warned that the resolution approved on Monday could hurt negotiations to halt hostilities by the U.S., Egypt and Qatar, raising the possibility of another veto, this time by the Americans.

The resolution, put forward by the 10 elected council members, is backed by Russia and China and the 22-nation Arab Group at the United Nations.

Disappointing it’s only for Ramadan it seems. Also what was the b**** US ambassador talking about in her statement about it being “non binding”. UNSC decisions are ostensibly international law. Does the US now publicly believe the UNSC does not decide international law? Obviously they don’t give a s*** either way but her saying that is a pretty stunning and bewildering thing to say publicly

    ❗️Netanyahu's Office:

Prime Minister Netanyahu already made it clear last night that if the US withdraws from its principled position, he will not send the Israeli delegation to the US - in light of the change in the American position, Prime Minister Netanyahu has decided that the delegation will not go.

yeah it stopped being a hot topic immediately once ppl couldn't middle ground their way through it. whats worse is that if you have any sort of position on that (that assumes pro-Palestine stance of course) youre seen as too radical and unrealistic and whatever else. if youre pro-zionist then youre good of course

Been no slowing in munitions from the US, US Congress just passed a bill pushing four bil to Israel and further provisions to undermine UNRWA and these pieces of s*** get upset enough over the US abstaining to do this?

I mean I hope it's not diplomatic bluster because the day US israeli relations truly fracture will be an incredible one and I hope this marks even an inching towards that but yeah these people are nuts

    🟢 Hamas:

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

The Islamic Resistance Movement Hamas welcomes today's call by the UN Security Council for an immediate ceasefire. We emphasize the necessity of reaching a permanent ceasefire that leads to the withdrawal of all zionist forces from the Gaza Strip and the return of displaced persons to their homes from which they were forced out.

We also affirm our readiness to immediately engage in a prisoner exchange process that leads to the release of prisoners held by both sides.

In the context of the resolution's text, we stress the importance of freedom of movement for Palestinian citizens and the entry of all humanitarian needs for all residents, in all areas of the Gaza Strip, including heavy equipment to remove rubble, so we can bury our martyrs who have been under the rubble for months.

Hamas calls on the Security Council to pressure the occupation to comply with the ceasefire and to stop the genocide war and ethnic cleansing against our people.

Hamas reaffirms the right of our Palestinian people to establish their independent, sovereign Palestinian state with Al-Quds as its capital, and the right to return, self-determination, in accordance with international resolutions and international law.

Hamas appreciates the efforts of our brothers in Algeria and all countries in the Security Council that have supported and continue to support our people, and work to stop the aggression and the zionist genocide war.

It's been nearly 24 hours since the UN Security Council resolution demanding an immediate ceasefire during Ramadan passed and what we're seeing on the ground is the complete opposite of what the resolution is demanding, Al Jazeera's Hani Mahmoud reports.

There seems to be a surge in attacks on Rafah city, along with the ongoing threats to expand the military operation the ground invasion - in Rafah where nearly 1.5 million forcibly displaced Palestinians have been sheltering.

There's also an obstruction of the flow of humanitarian aid to the northern part of Gaza City, and only a trickle has been allowed into the southern and central part that is nowhere near enough to respond to the humanitarian catastrophe.

The resolution allows for two weeks, which is not enough to respond to the catastrophe created by israel's war, as well as not enough to coordinate and secure the delivery of aid to the northern part of Gaza City.

More than 81 people have been killed and 93 wounded in Gaza in 24 hours, according to the enclave's Health Ministry.

The israeli military has bombed a house in Rafah, killing at least 18 people, including nine children.

Opinion: Why I’m resigning from the State Department

    edition.cnn.com/2024/03/27/opinions/gaza-israel-resigning-state-department-sheline/index.html

Across the federal government, employees like me have tried for months to influence policy, both internally and, when that failed, publicly. My colleagues and I watched in horror as this administration delivered thousands of precision-guided munitions, bombs, small arms and other lethal aid to Israel and authorized thousands more, even bypassing Congress to do so. We are appalled by the administration’s flagrant disregard for American laws that prohibit the US from providing assistance to foreign militaries that engage in gross human rights violations or that restrict the delivery of humanitarian aid.

The Biden administration’s own policy states, “The legitimacy of and public support for arms transfers among the populations of both the United States and recipient nations depends on the protection of civilians from harm, and the United States distinguishes itself from other potential sources of arms transfers by elevating the importance of protecting civilians.” Yet this noble statement of policy has been directly in contradiction with the actions of the president who promulgated it.

Some have argued that the US lacks influence over Israel. Yet Retired Israeli Maj. Gen. Yitzhak Brick noted in November that Israel’s missiles, bombs and airplanes all come from the US. “The minute they turn off the tap, you can’t keep fighting,” he said. “Everyone understands that we can’t fight this war without the United States. Period.”
