Thanks for the commercial accolades. How is the film groundbreaking though?

And "making a billion while not being in a shared universe" is a strange thing to taut as groundbreaking when Joker is not only yet another comic book property, but also one centered around one of the most popular and recognized comic book characters of all time. When the sensational headline coverage of the movie is factored in (i.e., free FOMO advertising), along with multiple memes, it's absurd to think that anyone ever doubted it would become a a smash hit in the first place.

Hype and controversy aside, Joker might be one of the least groundbreaking films I've ever seen.

Importance externally placed on a product by a contingent of fans does not make it groundbreaking or innovative. Joker is made up of spare parts from other movies, with its tone and soundtrack lending it a facade of prestige.

Still surprised how often I ask someone to explain why something was groundbreaking, and they reply with box office stats and corporate high fives

Amazing movie but to call it a classic is wrong

The message of the story was weird and it felt like it didn’t know quite know what they wanted to say and just through a couple ideas at the wall and hoped it stuck

Joaquin’s performance is classic, the movie isn’t really

Joker is groundbreaking in the comic world only. It’s literally Taxi Driver’s little brother.

What about it is groundbreaking in your view

The cinematography... how spectacular and entertaining it is and how close it is to the people

It‘s some next level s***, not on an intellectual level, but as an experience

This is the type of experience you want, going to the cinema

  • Jun 26, 2020

The emotions that are transmitted are very tangible, moreso than in other movies and more relevant to the times as it channels a certain frustration which resonates with a lot of people

The emotions and the cinematographic experience are key because it moves you and the images are very vivid so it sort of feels like a more-dimensional experience

  • Jun 26, 2020

People don‘t realize this is what we want and need
