    Everything

The truth is if you can't avoid student loans/make them minimal then you shouldn't be going to university.

Having kids should be out of the equation for most people. Being broke and birthing a child is literally psychotic behavior.

I make north of 60/hr right now. I live at home because I know that in order to buy a house, I need to stack chips. I avoided all student loans by working full time and paying for school out of my own pocket while my friends took out loans to travel, party, buy cars they shouldn't have, move out for no reason, etc.

Most people want it all. They want to move out, own nice s***, travel the world, go to a nice school, etc. all while in school. Life doesn't work that way. S*** has to give. The truth is that you need to realize the sacrifices you need to make. Tell me why people with s*** jobs and crippling debt should be having children before sorting out their s***. Tell me why people think they need to go to an expensive school or move out into an apartment when their parents are perfectly fine with them staying home until their financials are straight. It's nonsense.

F***, most people don't need to go to university. They need to become plumbers, carpenters, and electricians. Their lives would have way better outcomes if they did that instead of going to NYU.

Again: DO NOT GO TO AN EXPENSIVE UNIVERSITY. DO NOT GO TO UNIVERSITY UNLESS YOUR OUTCOMES POST-GRADUATION ARE A HIGH WAGE AND LOW/NO DEBT. DO NOT HAVE KIDS WHEN YOUR FINANCIALS ARE F***ED. DO NOT HAVE KIDS OUT OF WEDLOCK. DO NOT F*** YOUR CREDIT SCORE UP. DO NOT BUY A CAR YOU CANNOT AFFORD. DO NOT GET AN APARTMENT YOU CANNOT AFFORD.

I grew up dirt f***ing poor. This isn't complicated. Most people can follow the path, they just don't want to. This isn't some luck s*** or something incredibly hard to do. I urge anyone thinking about going to college for some bullshit degree/anyone looking to take on tons of debt to go to university to look up how much plumbers make in their area. Do you want to like your job or do you want to enjoy your life? S*** ain't a dreamscape. These are the choices most people have to make in order to live a decent life. Maybe being a plumber sucks -- but making a nice wage with no debt and a high credit score allowing you to enjoy your life is a f***ton better than liking your job while buried under mountains of debt with no prospects of ever being a homeowner.

You mentioned that the average car payment for a used car in America is $1k/month. Do you know how f***ing insane that sounds. Americans are overspending. I pay $300 making double/triple/quadruple what niggas paying $1k/month is bruh. If I'm not spending $1k why the f*** are they???

    Yeah u got lucky mate

Not having your parents around is much worse than having money problems

Retirement homes are a booming business when children who were deprived of a basic emotional parental bond cause they were stuck with nanny's or whatever in the most critical years of their neurological development, subsequently grow up and just throw their parents in a home, vicious cycle

Crazy how the same people that say they value community and culture are the biggest cheerleaders for capitalism.

We commodify almost every aspect of our lives, from the essence our expression to if "we can afford children", dehumanising ourselves and each other in the process

well by the time 2045 comes around our parents can probably choose to have AI assistants to accompany them for every function and can virtually live on the beach amongst other elderly people

    might not be as bad

We need to focus on what matters. Emotions matter, art matters, thoughts matter, PEOPLE matter, LIFE matters, it's time to reject the ideas of the industrial revolution where productivity and economics are the most important things in life, we can't chase this meaningless goal forever, we need to focus on experiences love laughter to make life fun and worthwhile

endless chase of growth, and people get pressured into selling whatever authenticity they have with their service or product to a bigger entity for better profits, streamlines like everything else in the same market and now it has no identity

take those burger joints you see now that all have the same vibe aesthetic, taste and appeal in every gentrified part of town
even content online just becomes worse the moment you see advertisers get their hands on it. you now bow down to the advertiser friendly model. all to make sure you grow grow grow. America wants you to feel bad that you aren’t chasing the highest dollar amount

Something more recent that people don’t talk enough about yet ..

We all know about the nation of renters issue and how commoditized housing is
leading to increased construction of bland, grayscale, high-rise apartments being the typical norm (absence of architectural diversity/erasure of historical design)

But .. even more depressing is the rise of rental furniture companies which now will supply/design a renters entire apartment for 200-300 a month. A business model tailor made to meet a demand created by a home affordability crisis. People can’t afford to own their homes anymore/constantly have to rent .. soon more and more won’t even own the bed and sofa they sit on since what’s the point of buying furniture if I’m just renting/have to move every couple years?

It's not luck to stay at home and bust your ass lol, unless you consider your parents liking you enough to stay at home this extreme case of luck (most Americans CHOOSE to go to school out of state or move out not because their parents hate them but because they themselves want a "college experience.") I went to a cheap school, I worked a s*** job, and I saved money. It ain't complicated. I grinded hard for 8 years.

What barriers do you believe the average American is facing to follow that path? I worked 40 hours a week my entire university/grad school experience.

Only goal is to get ahead. How can you have community that way? We don't share anything and it actually makes you a winner to not share anything and only get richer yourself. Other people will have to do the warehouse and construction jobs. Not your problem. You got ahead.

That's a poorly typed sentence combined with poor reading. I'm saying that out of those who decide to go out of state/move out for college, most are deciding to do so not because their parents are kicking them out but because they want to.

Me moving out for university was probably the best decision I ever made in my life coming from a low income background

I finished my bachelors with 21k in debt primarily due to housing costs since I was covered tuition wise. If I went to a CUNY and remained at home I HIGHLY doubt I would have had the same level of personal development/maturity/growth. That was invaluable and shouldn’t be downplayed as one of the major aspects of university.

Also if 79% of college students of going to school in-state then the student debt issue is not primarily attributed to the dynamic you’re talking about with students choosing to go out of state

Yeah, that's fine. You charted a path that ended with you taking on minimal debt. It was a responsible movr with minimal risk. Moving out is fine in that instance.

Student debt issue is people choosing to go to schools they cannot afford, plain and simple.

Yea but the options of affordability of getting worse and worse: theticker.org/10189/news/baruch-students-protest-proposed-cuny-and-suny-tuition-hike

I was coming in with a FAFSA EFC of 0 meaning I got full aid .. what about the middle class students who have to pay tuition out of pocket they can’t afford?

Those middle class people you're talking about should look at more affordable schools. If you can't afford 3-4k tuition per semester for 4 years while staying home and working then you need to look at community college options. If even that remains unaffordable and tracks as you taking on absurd amounts of debt, maybe college isn't for you and you need to be looking elsewhere.
