Just because he’s an artist who has proven to be capable of brilliance in the past doesn’t mean that everything he does is necessary brilliant. It’s not part of some master plan, nor is it a situation where added context improves it. Sometimes it seems sloppy and undercooked because it is.
Just because we know he could’ve done something great doesn’t mean he can’t fail.

Shark With LegsPeople call it cope, but you have to intentionally avoid playing any of your big songs. It’s not like he just sucked and couldn’t sing or anything. He chose to make it as convoluted as he did, and maybe it was more of a disaster than he anticipated, but let’s not act like he couldn’t easily of just went up there and did his top songs lol. Not saying his choice was good or bad, but it was clearly a choice.
He did play his big songs though. Not understanding your point.

Alongside many great lectures regarding art, he has an hour and half lecture breaking down Kayfabe and Andy Kaufman. That episode in particular discusses performance art really well.
