last album was pretty good and definitely a good way to 'announce' himself as a legit force. But he needs to evolve on this one. U won't get away with just making collections of songs forever, needs to come at this with a proper sound and aesthetic distinct from that
In this generation, yes,Lil Baby can get away with making a collection of songs forever.
Wayne is one of the only rappers ever to me who can get away with the style of just rapping over beats with basically no concepts or underlying themes to a song or an album. He gets away with it because his lyrics and flows are insane enough to keep me entertained - so even if he isn’t really saying anything, it still sounds incredible.
These new rappers being compared to him aren’t even close in that category. They aren’t very creative with the flows and the way they say words or make jokes in their lyrics. Go listen to something like Demolition Pt. 2 or Told Y’all and then report back on whether Lil Baby or Roddy have ever done anything like that.
100% agree with all of this
I have never understood the Wayne comparisons at all.
maybe in the quantity of output (and not even that, Wayne was releasing projects back to back)
to me Gunna is always funner to listen to than Lil Baby,
and Lil Baby about to underperform, same Roddy situation
took too long to release this and it's not going to offer anything new other than maybe the 1 or 2 standout banger.

He can and he should
That’s the best route for him to take.

The problem is he needs to limit the amount of songs on the album. 20+ is way too much hes not that versatile so it’ll get boring quick but he can def rap his ass off
6-10 trap/stripper joints with real bars and 1-3 melodic or rnb songs and it’ll be considered a classic imo

yeah but they also just need to be better than what hes putting out tho
I like his music a lot but hes not the one, hes like a more consistent Roddy
idk about all them wayne comparison
Who is “the one” for the new gen if it’s not baby?
The essence of a rap song is the verse
The verse has to be able to stand alone without the beat
Maybe 10 years ago, not the case anymore. Think it’s more important how you sound on the beat. Cadences, vocal inflections, efx, and what not
yeah but they also just need to be better than what hes putting out tho
Better production and hooks hopefully

its unfortunately Baby, and that is the issue
that the one rapper the whole game is championing isn't that interesting..
uzi makes more interesting for god sakes

You can’t think the leader of the Gen z rappers is not gonna make a 22 song album with a deluxe the next week

Younger generation isn’t interested in projects.
They want a list of songs to skim through and add a couple to a playlist
^These are the people saying lyrics matter more than the beat
I literally think the opposite lol

Nah fr we just happen to be music nerds so we listen to albums in full but majority of the consumers don’t do it. As long as the young gen got a few hits to spin off the album they are content

Millennial Gen rappers knew they had to consistently make quality projects or they wouldn’t have a fan base.
That’s why we got Kenny future Ye drake Danny brown Rocky Q Frank Weeknd KRIT Cole Freddie Gibbs ect
Music lover or not that was the blueprint from 09-16
The blueprint has changed. At expense of the music lover.

Out of these current rappers? Baby will be the biggest because hes consistent enough and has a great story like Durk
but for instance, I think Piano G has more potential than both of them (it says a lot about Lil Baby). Is he “the one” ? no, the curve to grade these guys on is low compared to last era

cap, younger generations love receiving a good cohesive project as well
Playboi Carti self titled
WLR
Savage Mode
Barter 6
Astroworld
days before rodeo
luv VS THE WORLD

its actually possible to do both
you can have a "list of songs" like you say and still have it be 13 songs, with decent sequencing, some sort of musical narrative or soundscape.
the issue is when its 24 songs spread over the same tired producers without having anything to distinguish each track, then it all sounds like autotune noise for an hour
