Do something that tires you out throughout the day, going for a run and clean out your place, just burn out a lot of energy. Before you go to sleep, try to avoid any blue lights like tv and phone, try to read a book with some calming tea.
Cut out any problems that could lead to less sleep like stress or noises.
If it continues I would highly recommend seeing a psychologist who specializes in sleep as long as they take your insurance.
Possibly get a sleep study done to rule out sleep apnea.
Don't use your phone or any electronic device for at least an hour before getting in bed. If you must use your phone, buy blue light glasses.
Another very high possibility is that the heat is keeping you up as the summer just started. You say its been 10 days since your insomnia started, so this may not be a coincidence that it just recently started getting hot. Make sure you have air conditioning in your room or at least a very strong fan. My insomnia becomes much worse in the summer almost every year.
Do not drink caffeine at least 6 hours before going to bed. Exercising in the afternoon can also have a positive impact on sleep quality although I'm guessing your insomnia is more deeply rooted than being caused by a lack of exercise.
Make sure you are sleeping with no light whatsoever coming into your room. Get blackout curtains. This is very important especially if you go to sleep really late/wake up late. Your circadian rhythms will become fkd if you're trying to sleep with light coming into your room.
What is your current sleep pattern? The most common cause of insomnia is a disrupted sleep pattern. You should be trying to be as consistent as possible with waking up in the morning at the same time and going to bed at night at the same time.
I need more info from you @op if you want a more in depth answer.
Although some of the answers in this thread mean well, a lot of them are negligible. Drinking tea at night is not going to cure your insomnia, you need to take more aggressive measures.
all of this
also:
-keep a sleep diary to note how much you sleep and try to notice any patterns
-no exercise within 3 hours before bedtime
-if ur mind races at night, write down all your thoughts
-alcohol can actually mess with your sleep. dont drink alcohol at night
-do not eat a heavy meal at night.
nah f*** melatonin that s*** gives me sum f***ed up dreams
I took melatonin once a few years back and s*** was weird. I was up all night but had great tickets to a Rams game that afternoon and didn't want to go on zero sleep. I took a melatonin tablet and woke up 90 minutes later feeling like I got 8 solid hours.
The dreams though, holy s***. It's like I didn't sleep at all they were so vivid. I don't have nightmares often anymore, but if I did that morning, it would have f***ed with my head.
As someone with frequent insomnia that is currently in a good routine, I highly recommend not sleeping 2 hours and trying to get by on that. It's a bad cycle. Just stay up until you crash and reset. You're in for a rough day, but getting by on 2 hour naps only conditions your body to keep that cycle going.
Have you hearing voices yet?

what are you doing when you’re not sleeping
what are you doing when you’re not sleeping
Thinking about negative s*** usually. Lack of sleep throws everything off. My mood, energy etc.
I usually lay there for 2 hours, get frustrated, go for a walk. Repeat.
Happened to me like 2 weeks ago when I was watching too many conspiracy/unsolved mystery videos.

maybe try not to force yourself to think about sleep
frustrating yourself won’t help i think, try a more calmer less stress free approach

I used aromatherapy spray and spray it on my pillow every night before I go to bed. I also use the fog machine.
I understand. I'll go to bed at like 1 and I'll take until 5 or 6 to fall asleep before having to get back up at 7 or 8. Sometimes I don't even fall asleep, I just wait until the next day is over. It really sucks tho. You're just sitting in the bed tossing and turning hoping you'll fall asleep.
The spray helps and try to be as active as you possibly can throughout the day so that you're as tired as can be and physically cannot stay up any longer. This usually helps but even then, my mind wonders for hours at night and I feel helpless sometimes.
