Most of the general public aren’t on music forums like us and that’s a heavy demographic of his fans

I've been wrestling with this for a while, and honestly the issue and what has been the issue with Cole are two things:

Cohesion, and artistic approach.

The talent is there, the bars are there, lyrically he's elite. The problem is that his cohesion when it comes to his music lacks, and that's a warranted critique. Great albums are like books. At times (and in a lot of Coles albums) his tracks are all over the place and aren't cohesive imo, which doesn't really pull in the listener. You have glimpses of that here and there like KOD or Born Sinner, but it just doesn't accomplish that goal for the most part.

His artistic approach also lacks as well. Strictly bars? Decent beats? He got it. But he doesn't imo execute the artistic approach well, and that I believe is the result of the lack of diversity in is production and music choices, in which he really needs like a go to producer. or a variety of producers to help bring it together. Which just him primarily producing it or pulling it all together, it's a meh for me because he doesn't really have it in him.

The artists in his circle that are really good at that are Tyler, Kendrick, (Old) Kanye, Old Neptunes, and early Drake. To me that's what missing from Cole.

Like I was saying in my other post, this has been a noticeable weakness of Cole throughout his career.

it was a moment and he brought the feeling back, and be actually delivered a great album, who gives af, section.80 did 4,000 copies first week and is a classic
