i'll always appreciate cole's realness and authenticity over hypocritical actions covered up with fake "layers". there's nothing complex about wanting to f*** white women lmao
Niggas saying it’s complicated and layers to want white p**** man delete rap fans after 01
Nothing is complex when you break something down to its literal meaning though
well yeah. kendrick tried dressed up wanting to f*** white women with "layers". just because he added paint to bs doesn't stop it from being bs

would it be better if he just said he f***ed a white b****?

unironically yes lol. that's way more real than "i needed to get revenge for my slave ancestors so i got me some white p****"
yes, cole usually choses the route of standing for something while being very direct on what his morals are. very different from kendrick who always seems to want to have his cake and eat it too. its not that hard to be wishy washy with your morals while still getting brownie poins for being a concious rapper. that's why cole will always be more real to me.
and the point about the "discussion" is that he thinks him just telling us that he's a hypocrite means he gets to absolve himself of any expectation of consistency. as the listener, that's a very horrible reasoning and its actually hilarious he though he could get away with it. mr morale as a whole has aged horribly because without accepting the message it tries to feed, there's not a lot of positive to take away
I just think we have vastly different interpretations of Mr Morale, but that's also kind of proving my point. You literally cannot do that with a J. Cole album because his messaging is so on the nose. To each their own. I'd still bet a stack Mr. Morale ages better in a decade than TFO.

Ironically the same year Jay said "Do you fools listen to music or do you just skim through it?"

there's a different between "on the nose" and having a clear line on where your morals are. i may not agree with what cole says sometimes but i always appreciate how real he is. also i don't even view kendrick as "complex". i just think he wants to do whatever he wants while still being viewed as the savior
it somehow managed to climb my top 5
Cole was channeling Bone Thugs-N-Harmony with those verses
Those verses are crazy

I'm not arguing Cole doesn't have clearly defined morals. He defintely does, and he seemingly stands on them. That doesn't mean his messaging isn't on the nose. Both artists clearly have a savior-complex, but I feel like one does more grandstanding than the other.
What’s with people hearing “I am not your savior” repeated over and over, and walking away thinking “This guy clearly wants to be raps savior!” ?

are we still doing the "kendrick said he's not your savior so don't expect any moral consistency from him" shtick?

I didn’t say that did I

Kendrick is a hypocrite yeah
I don't need music to guide my morals though

People be repeating that s*** like its not a cowardly take 😭😭
Nobody asked that nigga to be MLK he compared himself to him himself! Say something or just shut up 😂😂

I think the broader question is who isn't morally imperfect? Expecting absolute moral consistency from anyone is kind of asinine unless we're discussing literal prophets or something.
