not everything is about chasing hits lorde probably couldn't give two f***s about that
dude was all over melodrama and that album is a classic so i think some of yall are being bitter just cuz yall have nothing else going on
I think he’s a decent writer but bad producer, the sterile WalMart commercial sound of Melodrama clashes with the personal songwriting
I know Lorde doesn’t care about hits but the way all the stars are flocking to him you’d think that some of them do. I guess they’re chasing critic approval tho
Meh it’s easy to pick and choose a couple but this is a lot, idk if most producers have 6 released tracks THIS similar in this timeframe
Probably not but these songs are old and he's clearly evolved his sound since then

Ok bro. Melodrama classic. Get your talent up!
wait is this the dude writing paragraphs about how Lorde is selling out for s***appeal because of the cover?
it's all making sense

We’re all on a forum talking about music lol kill it with this “get your talent up you’re hating cause you have nothing going on”, good vibes only headass. Negativity is nothing to be afraid of, me thinking this dude is a hack doesn’t really have much to do with my life outside of this discussion. It’s ok to not like things

who do you think would've been a better fit for that album? any ideas?
Y’all hating
For some reason I want Eminem to rap this guys name
watch your bae like hasselhoff
through the glass of her loft
took my glasses off
smashed em in the backyard giving my hand a job while I out ran her dog,
dashed next door and jacked jack antonoff's

Running Pure Heroine back the other day, I definitely think Melodrama could have been a lot riskier sonically. The songwriting carries Melodrama, it only has a few moments of legitimately great production, like the sparkling outro of The Louvre.
Pure Heroine is really something. It's hollowed out, cold and works with some sounds that were very fresh at the time. It influenced everybody. Jack's production isn't so forward thinking, it just gave Lorde room to be herself.

I’m glad it wasn’t just me, I felt a similar way.
but not many producers will be able to say though i produced NFR & Melodrama
i get the hate but to say his bad producer is wrong

100% agreed
the last sentence is why it works well but also why it doesn’t come close to being the album people make it seem.
