the sterile WalMart commercial sound of Melodrama clashes with the personal songwriting
who do you think would've been a better fit for that album? any ideas?
You know, I was trying to think of someone, I’m not the most well versed on pop producers tbh but even someone like Mike Dean would’ve been an improvement to me. Maybe Malay (Frank Ocean’s producer) if he was willing to do it?

word i actually believe malay was on a couple melodrama records. maybe they worked again
i appreciate him because i think he brings out more creativity from the artists he works with but yeah he can be bland af
I think he’s a decent writer but bad producer, the sterile WalMart commercial sound of Melodrama clashes with the personal songwriting
I know Lorde doesn’t care about hits but the way all the stars are flocking to him you’d think that some of them do. I guess they’re chasing critic approval tho
it’s like shopping at the mall and looking at your phone music while you are eating some fries burger and having a snapple tea
you turn on country radio and it’s looking at your phone at the line dancing club rodeo or nascar speedway eating a chili dog and some beer
i’m not saying it’s not well done , im saying why this obsession to sound like this? who is driving this? do the artists and producers genuinely like this? or is that part of the facade? i haven’t figured that out yet.
and you really can’t ask anyone on ktt2 because most can’t critically think through a question like this. they genuinely think corporate clear channel radio driven music = great
it is an insane delusional perception to have. some on here get so giddy at a chart position or an award they think it solidifies great songwriting .
it’s almost like talking to a teenage dj khaled.

the obsession to sound like what, exactly? artists seek him out and they mutually decide which direction they want to take their project into. is that not a producer's job lol
do the new Clairo and Lorde singles sound the same to you?
That’s the main problem with a high level of productivity. Productivity trumps creativity. Of course, there are some exceptions but the artists who are able to constantly renew their creative inputs are geniuses. Antonoff can be very good but he’s clearly not a genius so he ends up repeating patterns his mind has internalized.
Pop music itself needs to be formulaic. It has to be generic because it must appeal to a lot of different people. Why do you think hip hop got so popular in the past decade? White people listen to Avril Lavigne but black people don’t. But everybody can listen to Drake and Migos. Guess what the industry does? They push rappers and pop artists who integrate elements of rap into their songs (Billie Eillish, Lorde, Doja Cat etc.).
