And I'd guarantee there are links between poverty and violent crime

  • Nexizimas

    Im ONLY talking about punishment

NOT about proving if somebody is guilty or not

You're adding another variable that we are excluding

It's an irrelevant comment that essentially says nothing then... How do we determine who to punish? That's why I made my initial comment.

I know this sort of thing is really controversial to some people because they've been fearmongered into believing this form of legalized slavery is the only thing preventing rapist/murderers from roaming the streets, but the idea of locking people in literal cages and having them perform slave labor and live in inhumane conditions is such a ridiculous concept. There's no reason we can't get rid of all jails, move to a strictly rehabilitation centered approach and create a more humane society.

that's also of course without even getting into the racial element of jail/prison and legalized slave labor.

edit: also this is where near all crim justice reforms fall short. they p much entirely ignore "violent offender"

EDIT: Get rid of rehab centers too. All incarceration methods are illegitimate

will put them in your house where you live mf

    Im confused

I agree w that. Im for full legalization/decriminalization as well

But im talking about the institution

I said in norway most you can get is 20yrs, they’re jails are comfortable and inmates are given skill And education opportunities, leisure and people whove done truly horrible things are rehabilitated, like professionally with social workers and counseling, this is shown thru their recidivism rate

Wht in this system do u disagree with?

D*** policy? Im pretty sure safe injection sites and full decriminalization was acheived in these countries years ago?

like ive said earlier, im not completely aware of how they do things in norway. it could be they do most of what im talking about

im also for a more community centered approach to certain issues.

I just haven't done much research to see what the normal prison in that area is like. I've seen the documentary that focuses on halden which is what most people typically reference but idk if thats the norm

and yes, i'd 100% want to move to community centered policing and even community centered treatment for addicts who want help.

    prison-insider.com/countryprofile/prisons-norway2019

Yet, the overuse of solitary confinement is very problematic in Norway, including its use for mentally ill inmates. There are many possibilities in the legal framework to isolate a convicted or remand prisoner: solitary confinement may be a reaction to a breach of the prison rules or as a preventive measure. Norway has also been criticized by international and national NGOs on the extensive use of isolation for pre-trial inmates under the pretext of protecting ongoing investigations. The administration should, according to the NGOs, guarantee the systematic individual assessment of the need for solitary confinement.

like for example, if the things in this paragraph are true there is a lot id change.
